battle battles at cold harbor lock the battles ogether on confusingthe landscapes mired in blood, day in and day out, with mounting casualty lists and no end in sight. there are plenty of acts of bravery to react on both sides and the rank and file largery remain committed to their respective causes, but 150 years later, it is difficult to find meaning in the midst of such blood letting. and then there is the petersburg campaign. for most people, the nine-month campaign can be reduced to a few photographs of miles of earthworks filled with begrimed veteran soldiers doing their best to stay out of the view of snipers and awaiting the next order to charge in what for many are still a series of nameless battles that stretch to early april 1865. the one exception to this admittedly narrow view of the campaign is the battle of the crater. the city 150 years ago on july 30, 1864. i suspect that for many visitors, the 150th anniversary of the petersburg campaign will begin and end with this commemoration. but there are any number of aspects of this battle that are worth recalling from the ch

harbor of the potomac. a beautiful afternoon. a few fair weather clouds. rain ahead of the cold front but the showers have shifted north and west. kind of parallel to the northeast. there is a lot of cloud cover our west. there is not a lot of energy to support the showers. i think they will continue to move northeast. isolated shower chance in the forecast, mainly west of town tonight. mostly cloudy with more areas of hatch a dash of patty, dense fog. morerough morgantown -- areas of patchy, dense fog. these numbers. 58 in detroit. 55 at chicago o'hare. lots of mid to upper 80's in the south and west. this warm air will not make it to our area. we are going to be seasonable in the mid-70's for the next few days. way their is coming our first weekend of october. a little fog and easterly flow may give us an isolated shower in the morning. the next big weather event is the friday night cold front. i think the chances of rain are pretty significant. overnight, 56-60 two degrees. tomorrow, after fog and an isolated shower, partly cloudy, pleasant in the afternoon, in the mid-70's.
