this is new today from the transcripts of the cockpit recorder on colgan air flight 3407 much the plane crashed in february, plunged into a home just outside buffalo, new york killed all 49 people on board as well as one person down on the ground. investigators say they blame a series of pilot errors. just got transcripts from the cockpit recordings and the young co-pilot rebecca shaw tells the pilot sick, sick enough that she should not have come to work that day. she commuted overnight from seattle to new jersey where the flight originated. the co-pilot also complained about her pay saying she made less than $16,000 the year before and that colgan refused to give her 200ness back pay. a lot of transit trouble on the ground as well. you have seen the images in recent weeks, train operators, bus drivers texting at the control, sometimes with deadly results. today a move to change all of that to actually make it illegal and maybe, they hope, save some lives. rick leventhal is with us now. we have heard a lot about this stuff lately. >> we have. it seems obvious if you are looking at your

the immediate attention focused on the failures of colgan air and it's flight crew called for a hastily summoned meeting earlier this week bringing together representatives of the faa and the airline industry to discuss these very same issues. unfortunately, meetings of this magnitude have been done before, resulting in little change. as the costs have always been too high for implementation. to break down the bureaucratic logjam, the families of the victims are now forced to ask congress to intervene, and do the right thing for public safety. number two, better aviation oversight by the federal government. americans believe that the role of the faa is that of a gatekeeper, an agency that is technically trained and expertly qualified to watch over the airline industry for the safety of the american public. we have certainly identified leaks in this dyke. while we are optimistic that the newly appointed administrator hears our pleas for action, we fear that the obstacles thrown up by the airline industry and pilot unions will be very hard to overcome. again, we are asking for congression
