collin goddard, who survived the connecticut virginia tech massacre, he still has three bullets in him that were fired that day. he said today on msnbc, i'm still trying to wrap my head around the mass shooting that happened in oregon earlier this week. when i saw this morning that this had happened, i sunk in my chair. you really cannot do justice to what these kids and what these teachers have just experienced. in the classroom where collin goddard was shot at virginia tech, there were 17 people in that classroom. only seven of them survived. two dozen kids were shot and wounded in a high school cafeteria in springfield, oregon in 1998. 1998. the police chief there now, who was a first responder that horrible day at that oregon high school 14 years ago said today about newtown, "i know that there is going to be a lot of emotion in that community." he said," in addition to the victims and the families in newtown, that his heart goetz goes out to the police and the emergency services personnel that responded to deal with this, because this is going to take a toll on a lot of people." b

. >> i want to bring in the k conversation exactly this issue of collin goddard who is the assistantector of victim and abuse advocacy for the brady campaign to prevent gun violence. he is a survivor of the all-time worst mass murder in a school in 1987 in the massacre of virginia tech. he joins us this morning. you have heard us just now talk talking about the assault weapons ban. what is the legislation that you have been working so hard to get passed? >> i have been working on this issue for three years when i realized that we don't do everything that we can to keep the guns out of the hands of particular people, and particularly dangerous weapons. the assault weapons background checks, and these are issues that we have been working on, and what is more important is to get the public outrage engaged. that is the missing piece. we have expressed our sympathies and condolences and the action has stopped there. we have not created a space for politicians to step up to lead. when i'm on the hill, i expect to get a no, we won't sun port you, but what is worse is that i am with you and
