brenda rosso the person in charge of the costume said the colonial williamsburg at this time was quote a colonial revival town. there was this romantic idea of old, virginia. in the 1970s at the time of the bicentennial with the rise of the serious study of american material culture. and the stress on the foundation's new curriculum on inclusiveness and social history the costume started becoming better researched and more accurate today the costume design center creates and maintains accurate costumes for all the employees of the historic area. 59,000 articles of clothing are owned by the foundation. they are made altered stored cleaned and tracked for 834 people in 1500 positions. there were clothing of the period between 1769 and 1781 with 1774 as a base interpretive year. the accuracy of costumes frees the wear to embody and communicate their version of their personas role in the 18th century. through interpretation one is able to express. deeply held personal values. colonial williamsburg allows for the expression of multiple messages that are embedded in his overarching education

t one of the principal things that our generation at colonial williamsburg did was to broaden the llfishnetif you will, to look at regional buildings.. and so wexd know that buildingse have in so williamsburg tell powerful stories, but they don'e tell the whole story because not everything survived.tory so it was our responsibility to try to put back pieces that tela a fuller story, particularly a story that afribmqódár( their race, their slavery. so we mounted a campaign over 37 years to go into countrysides and study buildings, particularly slave buildings. houses for enslaved people like this one, but also houses at nsm green hill, in which enslavedbl people werere domestic workers. so the whole plantation ensemble, if you will. since i retired, i'm continuingr to do this kind of work. i love doing fieldwork in the countryside. there's amazing material in the countryside that is largely overlooked, and it tells a mo theul story.y. so we were at green hill this en morning in campbell county. it's a remarkable plantation.la green hillntatio is probably th, or has been the most, or certainl
