dawn breaks cold and clear on a tuesday morning in denver, colorado. and as morning turns to midday, a question hangs in the thin air of the mile-high city, "where is kelsie schelling?" the vivacious 21-year-old recently discovered she's pregnant. now, she's late for work at this denver housewares store. >> she didn't show up for work. i tried calling her, i think from my cellphone and my store phone, couldn't get a response. >> reporter: at his hardware store in holyoke, colorado, kelsie's father doug also has trouble connecting. >> and i thought, "well, i'm gonna call and see how she's doin'." she didn't answer her phone, which is pretty rare. >> reporter: tuesday turns into thursday. and the silence gets louder. concern morphs into panic especially for her mother laura. >> all of her friends, like, started contacting us saying, you know, "we've been trying to reach kelsie. and we can't reach her." and when that happened that is, like, when i got really, really scared. >> reporter: but since that fateful february week, no explanation has arrived. wit

i had the air force academy, obviously, in colorado. they were all of course told no, they couldn't go. i would go up there. and i would say to the young men -- why don't you want women? they said -- well, they can wear their hair longer. i said does it interfere with the mission. no. do you want to wear your hair longer? no. so what's the issue again? >> well, they can wear earrings. >> you want to wear earrings? no. does it interfere with the mission? no. it was a very long time before we finally could get young women in. they just finally opened all of these slots i think this year. this colorado christian baker who said he would sell his goods to anyone.o a custom cake for a same-sex ceremony. he won sort of at the supreme court, but it was a very narrow decision. now he's facing a charge from somebody else who showed up. the person called in and wanted a very specific cake. when i explained that i'm transsexual and wanted a blue exterior and pink interior, they said they would not make the cake due to religious beliefs. the problems for this baker are not over. >> he won at the supreme court and colorado just continues to stay after him. the reality is he's providing a non-essential service. this is a cake. i think in fairness he should have the right to make this determination. we shouldn't ask the black baker to bake a cake for the kkk. this man says, i feel like i'm uncomfortable and like my rights are being violated. he shouldn't be forced to do it. >> it's going to be back to the supreme court at some point. he says, i have no choice now but to sue the state officials discriminating against me. my hope is that the federal court
