welcome to colorado. as you can see in colorado, it can go from 20 degrees to 70 degrees in one day. so welcome to colorado. as indicated, i have been a lawyer and a judge now for 49 years, but i am a member of one of colorado's historic families, and that is what i would like to talk about. , called the pit-scott-jackson family has been in colorado since 1926. my grandfather was part of the great migration from the south to the north. he came from missouri to colorado in 1926 to visit his run, who is in fitzsimmons hospital. his son had been injured in world war i fighting with germans, that is why his son was in the hospital. he eventually died in that hospital. william pitts was a carpenter by trade that once he arrived in colorado, he decided to stay in colorado. my great-grandfather was a visionary. upon reaching colorado, he decided to purchase several lots in the north cherry creek area, which to those that are familiar , it is now considered to be one of the most exclusive residential areas in col

that's our pueblo, colorado. whatever it is, there must be a lot of it in colorado's water. u.s. army captain groburg, another coloradan, was based out of fort carson, also received the medal of honor for his heroic actions in afghanistan. his patrol was ambushed by an individual wearing a suicide vest. the captain drove him down to the ground. the bomber's explosive vest -- the bomber's vest exploded, severely wounding the captain. he miraculously survived the blast and his actions saved many of his patrol members' lives. his actions were certainly extraordinary and they showed the character of the men that served, that they would do anything to protect those they love. i'm also reminded of a coloradan that i've had the honor of working with and meeting over the last several years. two years ago, in fact, i had a veterans day experience that i'll never forget from another veteran who refused to give up on his fellow brothers in arms -- brothers and sisters in arms. i was visiting donald stratton, who was a seaman first class on the u.s.s. arizona when the japanese launch add sur

the sky is not falling in colorado. what makes the current situation intolerable is the disconnect between federal and state law. every sing the state legal cannabis transaction is federally illegal. the dollars involved are the proceeds unlawful. that means that all of the different parts of our economy that connect to any legit plat business, plumbers, lec trixs, landlords, ets et cetera et cetera, risk becoming federal criminals. that also means that the $1.5 billion industry a year in colorado is nearly all cash. bafrpgds will not accept industry money for fear of regulatory action or federal forfeiture. keeping that out of banks means we lose the ability to trace. it's harder to ensure all taxes are being paid. it makes it easier for criminals to pose as legitimate. and it leaves hundreds of millions of dollars in cash in the state. for example the state department of revenue has one location that accepts cash, just one. business owners in the western part often have to drive five or more hours with tens of thousan

the colorado example is pretty interesting. if you come in close, you can see the three party tickets. the bottom in the ballot, this would be what they voted with in 1893. you could see equal suffrage approved. or equal suffrage not approved. once colorado women achieved the right to vote, they then elected female legislators. so this is a portrait of three of the four female legislators from the era from the 1893, 1894 and it's louise kerwin and agnes riddle. so you have two democrats and one republican. and in the back we've got three portraits of african-americans. there's hunt on the left. anna julia cooper in the middle. and mary church on the right. these are studio portraits made of these women while they were students at oberlin college. it was one of the first liberal arts schools in the united states to accept african-american students. what i love about these portraits is how young they are. you know they each went on to lead great lives. as activists. as women that were advocating for citizenship rights for all peo

the ski industry had a very good year last year in colorado. we're home to just under two dozen ski resorts in the state. vale's got resorts all over as we talked about coming off a record winter and the colorado river basin, a record amount of snowfall in the colorado basin and other areas as well. record number of visitors to the ski areas, length of the ski season. it really was an incredible year. can you walk through what you see from the business side of this? >> no. i think that's right and part of the momentum that i talked about and the testimony that i think the industry is feeling. so coming off 2018-2019 winter that was good, everywhere, not good in one place and dry another place snow was up about 31% and equally distributed. it was the fourth best year in the industry in terms of visitation. back up to 59 million skier visits. everyone was really excited about that. i think that momentum is rolling over into this year. we just had our snowiest october in a long time in colorado. good, cold temperatures everywhere. so a lot of snow
