here are the nine toss upstate, colorado, florida, florida, wisconsin, ohio, virginia and north carolinastick squarely in there. two of our states in the battleground have significant pop layings of people 65 and older. nearly 15% in iowa, more than 17% in florida. folks, that's two of the five oldest states in the union are in the battleground. will that make it hard for romney in those states? and 15.4% of the population in pennsylvania is over 65. with that in mind, let's see how the electoral votes breakdown. if you end up with a big senior problem in the state of florida. let's just go. let's play the game here. give the president florida and give him iowa and it's done. look at that. it is done. he doesn't need any more. if he is able to ride this senior issue. now, if you want to go ahead and say you give iowa to romney because iowa -- because of the fact that it touch's ryan's home state, the president is at 266 and romney has to win everything else. he's got to win ryan's home state. he's got to win colorado. he's got to win nevada. he's got to win north carolina, virginia, and

as for colorado, hispanics make up 20% of the population and% of the population and it is just one of to battleground states that has 1 million or more hispanic residents, floridae other one. meanwhile, new polls showing two swing states the president won in 2008. one in colorado is split between president obama governor romney. the republican presidential candidate is ahead of the president in colorado and the latest cbs poll. 50% going for governor romney, 45% going for the president in this new poll. the president leads in virginia 49% to 45% in a third battleground state, mr. obama holds a six-point lead. 61% to 45%. let's talk about aldiss with karl rove, former senior adviser and deputy chief of staff to george w. bush. he is also a fox news contributor and nobody can take a particle better than karl rove can. what do you make of these new numbers? >> first of while we have to be a little bit cautious about one poll and one state. for example, in five of the six polls that are coming out in the last couple of days come and the number that theyave president obama is higher than the average of all the recent polls in those states. in one of those states, th

florida and virginia. governor romney with several events in colorado. let's take a look at the map.se dozen or so states are the real swing states that we're talking about, and that's why they are seeing so many visits from these candidates. president obama going to virginia today. if you take a look at the stats on that state, the population about 5.2 million. that gives it 13 of the nation's electoral votes. the major industries in virginia, government is one of them, of course, with bordering on washington, d.c., you can understand that. health care as well. and the governor there, bob mcdonnell -- a man who is making a name for himself as a possible vice presidential pick. go down here to florida then. president obama is going to hit florida as well. that is a crucial state in this election. if we can get the florida information up here, florida, a state with 29 electoral votes. that's more than a tenth of all of those out there. take a look at the population, about 19 million. the electoral votes i told you about. major industry you probably already know, tourism is one of them

in colorado, in florida, iowa, nevada, new mexico, north carolina, virginia, all these states who hadin the previous election, when early voting increased, the democrat running for president won. empirically, it would appear that early voting is at least correlated with democrats doing well. you cannot say that early voting causes democrats to do well, but it is apparently linked by circumstance. and empirically the link would make sense because early voting, in particular, is popular with voters who tend to support democrats. consider florida. in the last election in florida, a clear majority of the african-americans who cast a ballot cast their ballot early. more than half the african-americans in florida who voted voted early. 1 million-plus african-american voters. they voted in person and early. by percentage in florida, only half as many white voters did that. so early voting mattered to african-american voters in florida more than it did to other voters. and early voting was crucial to barack obama's victory in florida. likewise, in ohio, african-americans in the cleveland area
