this multiplex in aurora, colorado, which is just aid jays sent to a large and popular mall in this areae believe that the authorities are in there -- in the theater right now, the victims have not been brought out as far as we know. it is still a very complex crime scene that they're trying to work their way through and, in fact, there were two crime scenes not only here at the theater but in north aurora a couple of miles from here at the suspect's apartment, when james holmes was taken into custody, he apparently told police that he had explosives, possibly a booby trap at his apartment in north aurora. that prompted a massive response of law enforcement, local and federal agents both from the fbi and atf responded to his apartment building. evacuated it and evacuated the surrounding area. at this time we're still waiting to hear what, if anything, they have found at that apartment. there were many witnesses and many victims -- many witnesses as you might imagine, three theaters were showing this movie when the shooting broke out and were told there were four bus loads of victims and

local time, colorado time, police responded to calls of a shooting at a multiplex theater complex called the century theater complex there. reports of multiple gunshots going off. we know now that a gunman walked into one of the theaters there dressed in a riot helmet, a bulletproof vest carrying at least one weapon. set off some sort of incendiary device, perhaps a smoke bomb and then began shooting at random. we know now that 15 people have been killed. 50 people have been injured. many of those injured being rushed by police cruiser to local trauma centers. we have no idea of the suspect's identity, although police say they have the suspect in custody. that person apparently, or reportedly, told them that he may have hidden explosives in other parts of the theater. he may have had explosives in his vehicle. he was apprehended near that vehicle. and he apparently told police he may have explosives or explosive devices in his home. a s.w.a.t. team is now on that location. but this was a midnight showing of "the dark knight rises," a highly anticipated summer movie. part of a popular mov

colorado, in stunned disbelief, it is an entire nation. nearly 18 1/2 hours after the deadly rampage at this multiplex in suburban denver, police here are still trying to make some sense of a senseless act of violence. the alleged gunman is in custody. he's been identified as 24-year-old james eagan holmes. he lived in this apartment building and tonight police are still searching there for explosives. aurora police chief daniel oates. >> and our investigation determined that his apartment is booby trapped with various incendiary devices and apparent trip wires. >> reporter: until recently, james holmes attended graduate school at the university of colorado denver where he was studying psychiatric and neurological disorders. he spent his high school years in a well to do neighborhood of san diego, where neighbors said he was quiet and kept to himself. from 2006 to 2010, holmes attended the university of california riverside, chancellor timothy white says holmes graduated with the highest honors with a degree in neuroscience. >> he had a merit-based scholarship while he was here. and then he moved on to colorado for graduate work. >> reporter:
