we're seeing some of that in terms of the resurgence of many neighborhoods in the district of columbia arlington, bethesda other places in the region. looking to the longer term we've soon replanning with the silver line opening in the tyson's corner area a lot of the planning in fairfax county is going to concentrate the new residents moving the that area in the tyson's area a walkable environment with good transit access. looking at it in terms of totals about half of the new growth in terms of residences are expected to occur in these 141 activity centers three out the region. 75%, three out of every four new jobs will be in these activity centers. combined they only represent less than 10% of the total land area of the region. so it makes it easier from a transportation standpoint to interconnect these centers using transit and then to improve circulation within them to allow opportunities for walking and biking to take some of the demand both off our highway system and off of transit. >> and off the water dlooifry system. >> the same planning the same projections use right-hand the same in

that is the question for arlington county. the columbia streetcar project was scrapped, but there is still an obvious need here. arlington streetcars were recently derailed. the project might be gone, but the demand for new transportation is still here. >> right now the burden is on the opponents to provide plan b, to show us how we can significantly expand transit in the corridor and make it work. >> the biggest problem was cost. >> reporter: opponents like bob dunfy say bus rapid transit brt is the way forward. >> it's to return to a superior level of bus service that we haven't really seen in this era. it's faster, more reliable and it will deliver really all of the same services that streetcar would have done and meet the needs of the cars. >> reporter: dunnfy says brt would be efficient by doing away with fare cars or on bus payments. customers would utilize off bus fare payments. to avoid traffic delays and frequent stopping bus drivers could safely override traffic lights and current bus stops would be consolidated. the virginia d.o

arlington tonight. a woman hit two pedestrians then kept on going. this happened in the 3600 block of columbia pike. jackie bensen spoke with one of the victims. she's at the scene where it all happened. >> reporter: jim, we're told this is how it happened. the woman was driving down columbia pike. she turns into this driveway thinking it's a parking lot possibly the gates are open. she goes down there, then something very shocking happens. >> she kept going, she didn't stop. >> reporter: stepping gingerly on one foot ahmad, a partner at the auto service on columbia pike spoke with us as he waited to be driven to the hospital. he said it happened just before 5:00. the suv driver scraped a car in the lot as she was turning around to leave. >> she didn't want to stop. she went over my leg and went over to my partner, she pushed him down and hit him with the car. >> reporter: the auto lot also housing a barber shop. it was filled with customers at the time. some used their phones to record the incident and showed the video to detectives. >> she was stopped there for what we think was about a minute. al
