at 8:15 p.m., july 29th, 2009, district of columbia fire and ems department received a call for a fire at 3030 chain bridge roadit was a essentially a two- alarm fire. however, as cheech shultz will explain, because of the ladder trucks, specialized units and the number of firefighters it ultimately grew to the equivalent of a four-alarm fire. what was most striking to the fire department upon arriving at the scene is that the first floor was almost entirely engulfed in flames. the estimate from the fire department is that 890% of the first floor of the rose -- residence was engulfed in flames. i want to depart from the report for a second. i was here last friday. i talked to some neighbors as has been the custom in the 2 1/2 years i have been mayor. one of the neighbors said the fire department looked like an army. that they -- within minutes were so omnipresent on this scene that the resident could not thank them enough. after the trucks started to arrive on the scene, wasa and fd worked together and after arrival on the scene the two closest fire hydrants were tapped in to. as the trucks arrived and as more
