comcast comcast for helping courtney these community visits. you can view all of the winning documentaries of student can.org. >> this week on the communicators. a visit to a consumer electronic show on capitol hill sponsored by the consumer technology association. ctas it biggest shows in las vegas during the winter. every spring the association sponsors a show where vendors and technology companies come to capitol hill to display their technology and electronics to policymakers. we spoke with some of the people at the show. >> now joining us on the communicators as the chairman of the energy and commerce committee, congressman fred upton republican of michigan. what are you doing down here at the cpa show on the hill? >> welcome i was very sad i had to miss the show in vegas this year. that is always a fine deal. this is a little event with lots of vendors to show us while we are working and having votes, some of the top things changing in technology. some not offered yet. as the foreman chairman of the auto caucus and as a ford owner i wanted to see some of the upgrades they were doing from music, phones, technology, directions, and they have it down. >> what you think? >> it's really exciting. that i can i don't know if it will plug into my gm car but i know it will work on my board. >> how much of the stuff that we're seeing down here being displayed does the energy and commerce committee have a hand in? >> we have jurisdiction over the world. we have a separate subcommittee on communication and technology. greg walton has been doing a super job. our role has been getting the government out of regulating this, let the consumer decide what is going on. i. i can remember a number of years ago owing to vegas to see the technology show and walking with the brian roberts, then the president, soon to to be chairman of comcast, looking at hdtv. the two of us saying, i think this is really going to go. and all of a sudden, bingo look where we are today in terms of communication, with the job creation, we are working on a major bill and legislation that we have already passed and we'll see the fcc free up more spectrum which will enable these devices to be built, to be used to communicate. we are on the run. it is good things. shows like this, i don't know 30 some different some different vendors that are here today, that is pretty exciting. >> it's hard to get out of here actually. >> i understand. the spectrum options are taking place, where does fit into the. >> first of all we help. unless that we freed up the spectrum from analog to digital which was actually my bill a lot of years ago, that now has created the spectrum and we are seen the fcc doing some more spectrum sales. really in the next couple of weeks we'll have some oversight to make sure it is done right. it seems, at least at this point we are

on the parks and resorts area, it has been good for disney and comcast. comcast theme park business. globally, it is good. disney is the dominant player. they will double down on china with the opening of shanghai china. it will be a growth driver over the next five plus years. mark: any update expected on the search for a replacement for mr. bob iger? paul: it was a negative surprise when the news came out. i think the company was undergoing a diligent and thorough succession plan over the last five plus years. at the last minute it fell apart. i think investors will want to get a sense of is the board leaning toward an internal or external candidate? bob iger has 2 years left on his contract. he could extend it if they do not find a capable replacement. mark: who is the favorite? we have a few candidates. sheryl sandberg is among them. two is the favorite? paul: investors would favor steve burke who has a senior executive position running nbc universal and is a former disney executive. sheryl sandberg is intriguing. she has done a tremendous job at facebook dri

volunteers joined nbc10 and our parent company comcast for the largest single day volunteer effort in the country. today, is comcast cares day, a celebration of comcast year-long commitment to service. nbc10 and telemundo 62 employees got to work cleaning up a boys and girls club, building a play area and cleaning up the beach. buzzsaws and buckets of wet paint were among the sights at the boys and girl dpz club. comcast employees and families teamed up to fix bathrooms and paint hallways and you can see nbc10 was out in full force. >> what we're going to do here is really make it better for all these young people who come here as place to gather to have fun to, let off some steam. we're just so happy to be here to help out. >> our comcast cares day volunteering continued in north philadelphia and nbc10 and telemundo 62 workers helped create a new children's play area at a daycare center. it is run by an organization that helps los income minority communities. >>> and the jersey shore also got some help from comcast cares day. volunteers joined clean ocean action to help get rid of the trash at the beach in ocean city cape may county. >>> tonight, 10

address competition how do you sort of adjust the front end, not only address, can i buy comcast's box a or comcast'sox b? and, on that same level there has been a lot of criticism about, from the left, about antitrust, failure to pursue antitrust cases. then criticism on the right from the business industry that the obama administration has not been friendly in that way. so how do you kind of thread that needle and pursue antitrust especially at a time when we're seeing these massive mergers with walgreen's and rite aid and kraft and heinz, aetna, cigna, humana, something else? we're seeing massive mergers and how do you deal with that? >> on your first, you're precisely right there is an intersection between these two issues. if you had a choice of 100 different cable companies probably we wouldn't need a rule about set-top boxes because one of those cable companies would compete for the business letting you have a set-top box or better one. when you don't have competition in terms of cable wire going into your house, that makes it that much more important to make sure you can't leverage the market

comcast wants to make sure it doesn't lose revenue if this drives cord-cutting, speculate comcast and other tv and internet providers could bundle this hulu service with broadband. we can also expect hulu to reach out beyond its owners to cbs and time warner by including some of their channels. none of the media giants or hulu would comment. the advertising up front presentation is this wednesday. we expect the ceo mike hopkins to address the service and announce a new hulu subscriber number likely well north of ten million. >> the information flow on that front just keeps coming. makes your head spin. what does this mean? >> this is fascinating. this is a huge deal. a big move on the part of programmers. the reason why it's happening, we are seeing from all cable distributors, numbers are flat or declining. video subs are going down, broadband subs are going up f you are a programmer, you want to be where people are, namely broadband. that's a smart move. at the same time, i don't think it's a way to encourage cord cutting. i think the cord cutting is already happening. i want to get those people. that's the thinking on the part of the programmers. >> isn't it just a new cord? >> you are paying $40 on top of the broadband. yes. i totally agree. >> i bet they let you pay more than $40 if you want some extra channels to tack on to your bundle. $40 here, $40 there per month, all of a sudden you're talking about real money. this is interesting. >> like a cable bill. >> yeah. like a cable bill. it will be interesting to see what this forces the cable companies to do. i also have questions of course, comcast is our parent company. i was under the impression there was some obligation on comcast nbc universal's part to participate in some of this. >> you are absolutely right.
