fbi director james comey and other federal officials are about to hold a briefing. lot of questions about previous incidents in which the orlando gunman omar mateen was investigated and questioned by the fbi. i want to bring in nbc's gabe gutierrez with us. we heard the president say earlier that mateen did not appear to be directed by anyone and not part of a larger plot, but what are we learning about the timeline? three hours from the time this attack broke out until he was shot and killed. >> authorities did speak about that, lester. as you can see, this is still a very active scene. authorities have removed all of the bodies from the crime scene, but are still processing the scene. this is what we know about the timeline so far. there are questions about why it took three hours for authorities to storm the building. at 2:02 in the morning that's when shots rang out and witnesses described the scene. over the next hours officers responded including the uniformed police officer we heard about who was working off-duty and working security, he confronts the gunman

looking for any evidence, i know you'll have a reporter getting into a lot of detail about what james comey fbi director had to say, but in a quick nutshell, they found electronic evidence, they also say that omar mateen had traveled to saudi arabia at least two different times and of course, we know by now, that within pulse night club, he had called 911 at least two different times, then there was a call back, and during one of those phone calls, a third one, when it was a reverse call from 911, he did, in fact, pledge referred to the boston marathon bombers as, quote, unquote, home boys, the tsarnaev brothers. the hearts and minds of the people of orlando are on the victims here. the number of fatalities downgraded today to 49 from 50, because the 50th fatality was the gunman and as of yesterday, they were including that total as a victims' total. the 50th person is in fact, the gunman. now, 43 of the 53 wounded remain in the hospital. we hear that at least six are undergoing operations today on monday, pretty much two days after this shooting occurred or day and a half or so. and some a
