my community in the laguna pueblo, and the pueblo laguna is communities. there we're still dealing with the aftereffects of a mind left behind damage, that ruined the health of so many people. it's rewarding to travel the country to see cleanup get underway in communities that have been left behind. it's especially rewarding to know that these local communities have a direct say in how this work gets accomplished on a recent trip to pittsburgh, a small business owner told me that he's been able to nearly double the wages of his workers comp and expects to hire even more employees because of the amount of work generated by these signs. and we are just getting started as we make new funding available where each encouraging states to use project labor agreements and the union workforce to keep trade workers and economic opportunity at the center. our clean energy goals also present enormous opportunities for new family sustaining jobs, through innovative lease stipulations and bidding credits we are launching a robust, resilient, domestic offshore wind supply

i'm the communications and community engagement specialist at asian women shelter. and it is absolutely my honor and privilege to accept this word on behalf of a man amanda thing, body pakiya. i had a lot of practice working with her for a year. um at long last name on instagram definitely follow her and all her amazing art. um she could not be here today because she's in the middle of another project. um so earlier this year , asian women shelter had the absolute privilege and honor to work with amanda. to come up with this prevention campaign. so i just a little bit about us, where one of only three domestic violence shelters in san francisco? yes there are only three and we're the ones that provides a lot of culturally specific services, so it warms my heart to see all the language access we have over 100 language advocates that speak over 40 different languages. if any of you guys are interested, please connect with me and we would love to have you as a language advocate. um so the collaboration with amanda was made possible by the a p i civic engagement fund. u

we have to partner with communities of african descent, indigenous communities, roma communities, otherarginalized ethnic and racial communities wherever we are. and talk to them. because we know better than any of us the challenges that they're facing and what they need in terms of u.s. government support or what we can be doing better to help them achieve a quality in justice. they simply have just, for far too long, been excluded from the conversation that impacts them. so one thing that my colleague, special advisor for international disability rights, always says is a common phrase of the disability community, nothing about us without us. and she actually likes to shorten it and say just nothing without us, because it's about us. it's true for members of other communities, everything impacts us. so there should not be a conversation where we are not a part of it. >> you make an excellent point about listening to them directly, not making assumptions, understanding the nuances. you also mentioned the special envoy. welcomed the honor to host her for an event. you talked about intern

that is how the black community got its root in this incredible city. a lot migrated to work at the hunter's point shipyard and on the water front >> my family came to san francisco lead my by my great grand mother in 1941. she came like most of the african americans out of the south to the bay area to work in the shipyards during the second world war. overnight years, we people prospered, homeowners it was thriving for the african-american community. where bayview became the center points for african-american homeownership. >> with the shipyard closing, a lot of jobs left and with the maritime shipping leaving throughout the state. african-americans moved out of san francisco, which was the population is 4% or less of african-americans where 20 years ago it may have been 20%. here the port of san francisco we tried to create many opportunities for are african-americans to participate in contracting in development and jobs. i'm kay book the founder of coffee company. recently opened the flagship coffee shop. this is a full circle for mow to have opened

helping communities do that. are just seeing a lot more focus between response and long-term resiliency. there are those marks and years. think about new orleans. i think that it is an important role for governors who can capture all of the aspects of state government and drive them to communities. another area that is important is communities will get defensive about their response. that is just inevitable. every disaster -- show me a disaster that does not politics and i will show you north korea. i mean, politics are the bloodstream of ourme democracy. but we need to learn as well outside of all the screaming and yelling and root causes and is it climate change and gun control. that stuff just put aside. an important part of what states can do and territories and governors is learned as we say not that they die, but how they died. those are different questions. for a dozen people died in this hurricane. a community will, you know, sort of recognize that. only estate i think can take a serious actor doing what
