community connection is beautiful. the facilitators are nice, the caseworkers are nice, and, you know, whatever area you need help in, they're there to help you, with open arms. dr. clark, what are some of the most effective approaches to dealing with individuals that are homeless and that have an addiction problem or a co-occurring condition? i think the most important thing, when you talk about approaches, is that you do have an individualized assessment of the person. you screen for a full range of issues. from samhsa's point of view, that would include mental health issues, trauma, substance use, etc. but remember, we're dealing with somebody who is homeless, so we need to know what else, what other situations are going on. am i homeless because of economics? am i homeless because of domestic violence? am i homeless because of a physical problem that needs to be addressed? am i a veteran who may have access to resources? will i benefit from peer support? these are all questions the case-, the person doing the asses
