maxine harris, ceo and co-founder, community connections, washington, dc. dr. clark, what is trauma and how do we define trauma? the definition of trauma is a little ambiguous, but it's tied to specific adverse events that a person may experience or a community may experience, including disasters, physical or sexual abuse, or witnessing the above-mentioned. it's of that nature, it could be psychological as well as physical, and there are a wide range of issues associated with the definition. very good, and what are the various sources of trauma? well, the sources are similar to the precipitant. it could be from a relative or a partner. it could be in war, from the enemy. it could be from tornadoes or hurricanes or floods. it could be from predators who are in the community unbeknownst to the victim, a person who's victimized from either physical assault or rape or events like that. so the, it can be from a loved one or it can be from a total stranger. dr. gillece, basically how is trauma closely tied with substance use and mental health issues? well, we believe

rights and the rights of all people and the recognition that we as minimum bier of the lgbt community are connectedities, and that we cannot be for lgbt rights if we're also not for the rights of other groups. that we cannot be -- (applause) >> -- only about the lgbt community. that if you believe in gay rights and lgbt rights, that you necessarily have to be for the rights of immigrants. that you necessarily have to be for the rights of women. that you necessarily have to be for the right for anyone who is disinfranchised in society. that to me is the essence of that legacy. * and why it's a legacy that transcends, transcends the lgbt community in terms whatv harvey milk was about. so, as an openly gay latino man, i am grateful for that legacy. and i am grateful that harvey milk, that george moscone, have become a beacon of light and hope not only for the lgbt community, but for so many communities throughout this country. and not just this country, but the world. and, so, that is what's so special, is that it's a legacy that transcends san francisco and it's truly a worldwide legacy. so, it is my

first i believe that our connecting community slogan it is real. we are the greatest city in the united states and we are an incredible city because our communities come together for our subway and for our giants. second, we have to do more. we have to make sure that we're taking care of not just our daily needs on muni and not just our daily needs for the pedestrians, our sierkists, those in cars, those that walk, but we have to make sure we're investing in the long-term projects, and lafltly i just want to say one thing. we know over the history of time great cities don't regret building subways. they regret not building them. thank you. connect to all of these things. we have had many members of the community because we are on the street level knock on the door in the last month or two and we have been able to interact with them and learn where we can make those connections at the same time, we are not a support services organization, we are an arts organization and so i would not pretend to know all of the communities that live in the neighborhood but i am hoping that we will find logical areas where the members who want to participate, the members of the musical community who want to participate and use the space, will be able to take a programs that they are currently delivering at sites like the school of the arts and schools in the east bay and find ways to deliver them to the locations that are around our neighborhood. i see us as serving as a catalyst for that. we will not be producers for those events but hopefully the artist and organizations that we are working with in our space will take advantage of our position in the neighborhood and work with the groups who are directly around us. >> thank you. >> thank you. >> so, i just wanted to a
