community health centers will now be able to order vaccines for their communities directly. retail pharmacies are in places that have the greatest disease and exposure. largely in underserved communities. we are locating our federal vaccination sites in places where there's the greatest need to fill. i would not want to give the impression that someone is sitting back and managing this pandemic and the vaccination program according to some formula. it's not true in the least. we are getting the amount of vaccines we think we need for the population. that's fundamental. then we are working on very tactical areas on how to maximize vaccine distribution so we can get what we want, efficiency, health equity, and the other goals that we have. it's a massive project. it takes a lot of work and a lot of smart and good people and there's a lot of dialogue with the states, as dr. walensky indicated. with that i want to thank you , for your attendance and your questions and we look forward to talking with you later in the week. >> go to c-span.org/coronavirus for the federal response

and to advance equitable distribution, we are announcing today that we are expanding our community health center vaccine program so that the nearly 1400 community health centers can sign up and receive administered doses to their patients. many community health centers are located in underserved immunities and serve patients that are uninsured or underinsured. as of today. more than 108 million americans have gotten at least their first shot. and, our vaccination program is progressing ahead of schedule due to the aggressive steps we have taken at the president's direction to increase the number of vaccinators in the field and places for americans to get vaccinated, as well as the strong work of our partners. but, as the president also underscored, even if we vaccinate americans in record numbers, we are still not even halfway there. the progress we have made can be reversed if we let our guard down. better days are on the horizon, we do believe a more normal fourth of july holiday is within reach. that is nearly three months away, and as the president said, the real question is how much

health equity. we have made new and expanded investments in disproportionately affected communities across the country to provide the foundation and resources to help address disparities, and to create the infrastructure to address the other health conditions. last week, cdc launched a new website, racism and health, which serves as a platform for greater education and dialogue about these critical issues. there, we articulate that racism is a serious public health threat that directly affects the well-being of millions of americans and the health of our entire nation. we must acknowledge the disparities that exist and commit to an equitable distribution of vaccines, particularly to those communities that have been hardest hit by the virus. looking at the data available, the total number of vaccines administered, black and african-american individuals make up about 12% of the u.s. population and are just 8.4% of those receiving at least one dose of the vaccine. 18% of the country identifies as hispanic or latino, yet they make up only 10.7% of those receiving vaccination. we must do better. and we wil

offering this as an example for why we need to think about how we are communicating health information. because we take it for granted. we are very close to the information. i would love to see some attention in the report focused on how we communicate in plain language. it is possible to be scientifically credible it also speak and plain language so people understand what we are saying. because otherwise we are just leaving them behind. and the final thing i will say for turning this back to you, i think it's really critical for us to deploy vaccines into communities. the reason this is important is because we talk a lot about equity now. and ensuring people havees access. even if we provide, i think these interventions are incredible.th i think we can lead to many more people with these interventions. we have a last mile problem now. and so to get those people who are still in the movable mental and it's taking a little more time, energy, and intervention to move them to vaccine acceptance. we have to take the vaccine to them. i think if we think about that, all of these ideas we are

mental health is a taboo topic in many marginalized communities. and yet racial trauma definitely impacts racial health. it's difficult to talk about mental health communities where there is an expectation of achieving success to give back to the family for their sacrifices as well as the idea that children of immigrants will never have difficulties on par of that with their parents who were refugees. we talk about college mental health, there is also an expectation that parents are involved in helping youth navigate the complex insurance and health system. however, that's not possible if the parents themselves have limited knowledge in the health system or when mental health is a cultural taboo. it is vital to have therapists who understand these cultural dynamics and are able to support these backgrounds. especially in light of recent events. we spent time and energy as a country telling people to seek help when they need it, which is important. but that is not enough to tell people they need help. but it also needs to exist and be accessible. she

and she has been working to help band access to immigrant communities to get health care benefit. so to both how mattel and bloom, thank you for being with us. i'm going to ask you to step back and -- and lay a little bit more about the groundwork. what were the rules for immigrant access to safety net before the final rule on public charge mark haddad to change and where does it stand now? >> that is a tough question to start off on because -- in two minutes or less. it is hard because there is variation across states and immigration status. in general, undocumented and were going to are not eligible for federal benefits. there are some exceptions for things like emergency medicaid, immunization and school meals. many immigrants with a lawful status are also not eligible for enteral benefits. in general, and immigrant with a green card, permanent resident is not eligible for benefits for the first five years of that status. there is also a lot of differences at the state level. since the 1996 form, it led to passive policies. many states eliminated the five-year bar for pregnant
