four miles away from walnut creek, 1 mile from concord. here is the significant thing, we can pull up video from the napa earthquake that obviously was stronger. that was a 6.1. that was also shallower. how deep was this earthquake? this one was 9 miles deep. the one in napa was 3.7 miles deep. so, the deeper a earthquake is the lessenner gee that makes it up to the surface. in this case it wasy -- lesser energy that makes it up to the surface. in this case it was not as widespread felt because it was keeper in the earth. not as much of the energy on the surface. the concord fault, one of the many east of the hayward fault. green valley, greenville, and most significant fault was magnitude 5.9 that occurred back in january of 1980. here is a look at the fault on your television screen. north of vacaville, all of the way south. a lot of phobes live near that concord fault and a lot of folks felt the shake -- a lot of folks live near that concord fault and a lot of folks felt the shake. not a lot from oakland but we were saying it was at the

the earthquake started after 7:00 in concord. and that's where brian flores is. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon. we're in downtown concord across from the plaza, not too far from the epicenter of the earthquakes. normal nice day for many. we spoke to some who say their nerves were a bit rattled. the first quake hit at 7:01 centered near oak mead drive. that was a 3.2. the second happened at 7:32 this morning off lonnie kai drive. that was a 3.5 and the third happened three minutes after that, centered at ellis lake park near ellis street and that was a 2.7. contra costa fire reports no damage to any buildings. but we did speak with some people getting ready for work and they described a swarm of quakes -- the swarm of quakes with a big jolt. >> i was thinking if we were in the house, where would i go? what would i get? i'm definitely cognizant of it. >> reporter: not only were there three small quakes today, there was a 3.7 on sunday afternoon around 3:15. the experts say they are on the concord/green valley line. it runs to lake berryessa. the smalle

we are worried about the concord green valley fault system.t 6 millimeters of slip build up on it every year. the -- it's the last big event occurred before 1770. so -- >> it's due? >> we think it's due, but when we say due, in the geological sense, it's not like it's supposed to arrive like a package the next morning. >> yeah, it's not imminent, but somewhere in that range. the last earthquake was, as you mentioned, in the 1700s on that fault. does that cause seismologists to look a little more closely at the concord fault, or other faults, which have not had an event in a couple of hundred years? >> we're looking at all the faults there. trying to figure out what the effect of the south napa earthquake was on the concord green valley. it's -- the problem that we have in the east bay is there are a lot offal faults. the hayward fault, the concord green valley. the south napa, or the west napa fault. and we're not sure how -- it's like a puzzle that is -- we haven't quite put together yet. >> and the puzzle parts keep shift, don't they? >> wel
