has now become concords problem. like it or not, robert bates isn't just coming to concord. he's already here. sot- "we understand the public and why they're upset." the concord police department says allowing 51-year-old robert bates, who looks like this now, to move into it's city was out of their control. sot- "it came down from the contra costa county superior court." on monday, the department of state hospitals let police know bates was being released and taken to concord where he'll live as a transient. required by law to register as a sex offender with the police department every 30 days. concord police corporal christopher blakely says he'll also wear an ankle braclet and that a supervisor from liberty healthcare will be with him at all times. sot- "and, we will also be monitoring him ourselves." police say bates will room in local motels and hotels. and, every five days, rotate to somewhere else within the city. we're talking about a man who in the 90s was convicted of molesting multiple boys in ccontra costa county. last year, a judge approved his move into this ho

that man has since been taken to the concord police department for questioning. that's where kron 4's philippe djegal joins us tonight. with the latest details. philippe. >> phillipe :catherine. right now, the suspect is being questioned by f-b-i investigators here at the concord police department. he was bought here earlier this evening, shortly after he was spotted at a grocery store in brentwood, then a pharmacy, while allegedly looking for items to help with shaving his beard. here's a look at some photos taken of the suspect as he was being taken into custody. the pictures courtest of east county today. yoyu can see his head is shaven and his beard has also been trimmed. tonight, a witness tells us that the suspect was first seen at around seven o'clock in the evening at a safeway store on balfour road in brentwood. he then walked into the c-v-s pharmacy across the street, looking for items to help with shaving his head and face. at some point, he was confronted by police. and, it appears there was a short car chase, which ended with the suspect, at long las
