the original of the emerson chair is over at the concorde museum. and in a wonderful collaboration with them last year the , museum, the trustees of the preservation and the north , bennet street school came together to reproduce the emerson chair so that visitors could sit in the chair where imris and wrote "nature" and look out over the landscape. one thing people always notice if they have seen the original and they look at this one that is reproduced, this one is green and the original chair is black. in fact, the green chair is what it would have been when emerson first sat in it at mary windsor's writing desk, in this period, but later victorians loved to paint things black so the chair was changed. so what people notice is when they sit in it, it envelopes you. you feel very held when you are writing there. this wonderful wood piece of this writing surface is actually a natural color. this is a furniture piece of adaptive use. it started out as a green chair. possibly ezra ripley, the tall gentleman, he wanted the writing surface a little hig

when he writes here, others start to trickle into concord at the same time. you have margaret fuller coming alcott family.e emerson is loosely at the core of that. he didn't take the flag and run with it, he was a quiet leader of this idea, the transcendentalism idea and really, concorde, is so well placed for that. it was beautiful and continues to be so today. it was a perfect place for inspiration to happen, and transcendentalism is very hard to distill down to one particular thought. there were volumes and volumes. even today, written about what was at the core of it, emerson believed the individual spirit had the capacity to think about the world, anything as small as a leaf or a water droplet, or a -- you couldy was see the world in that thing, that element, that person. it was a very optimistic view. certainly, there was a social awareness component to it that wanted to make the world a better place at a time there was so much change industrially in the city. for emerson to write that, i often wonder how aware he was that he was about to change things.

tom said there was paving work going on in concord so we are going to that. southbound 680 and 682. 242 up to 680 late paving work. thank you tom and other people who have texted and tweeted. 242 is very slow backed up all the way almost to highway 4. 680 is slow nearby. also the bay bridge toll plaza traffic is still light. i would still use the san mateo bridge. it still looks okay. this is a look at the altamont pass. you can see the traffic on the tracy super commute will be slow this morning because of earlier roadwork. it has been very slow especially unto 205 at least a mile longer than it normally is. if you are driving over to doublet it looks good. at three minutes passed by let's go back to the desk. about 59 people died in the las vegas rampage are being remembered. last night there were several memorials and candlelight vigils around las vegas including this one on the campus of the university of nevada. people sang songs and prayed for the victims, for their families and for the survivors still fighting for their lives. with more than 500 victim

temperatures are mild, 70s and 80s outside, san jose 83, concord 84, san francisco 75.ically just the past three years, small sample size, the last 90-degree day in places like livermore, tri- valley? the past three years it's been the second week of october. it is not the second week of october this week. we are late by about two weeks for this last 90-degree weather,en a guarantee -- weather, not a guarantee it's not happening again in the next couple weeks. we will hit 90 tomorrow and wednesday in livermore. 60 tonight in livermore, vallejo, san jose 67, san francisco 60. why so warm? it's all about wind direction. i think there's no other metropolitan area in the country that's so dependent on its weather from simply where the wind comes from. our wind is coming from the east, the desert, the warm. that means tomorrow temperatures will run up to 21 degrees above average. if we did nothing but change the wind direction to a west wind, it would be 25 to 30 degrees cooler with everything else equal. so it is literally all about the wind direction. why is that happening
