nbc bay area's alyssa goard joins us from concord. and alyssa, the county leaders, are worried about the risks that the heat is creating for people who are just stuck outside with no place to go. that's right. jessica, it is so hot out here as jeff mentioned. and the county leaders, they do know that heat can be dangerous for people without air conditioning. it can even be deadly for some people, which is why the unhoused people who we've spoken with today say they've been looking anywhere they can find for some relief. last, lots of ice cream, lots of water, trying to find, a public pool. that's how imani shelton, who stays around concord, survives the heat wave. he describes himself as, i would like to color, houseless instead of homeless. and there's a growing number of people in the same position. new numbers from a january count show that on any given night, there are 243 people experiencing homelessness in contra costa county. that's up 19.8% from last year, which, while disappointing, i don't think it shocked anyone. the county

there is concerning concord.e have been getting calls about something happening at the concord naval weapons station, but they say not to worry. it is just a drill. police say the loudspeaker announcements that people are hearing are part of an army exercise. people might also see more uniformed service members in that area. right now, concord police say that there's no need to call 911. they are aware of what's going on there. the exercise started on june 10th and continues through the 18th. i new at 11. we hear a lot about catalytic converter thefts, right. but now another crime trend has come to berkeley. thieves are stealing airbags. berkeley police say it happened four times in just one night this week. one victim shared these photos with us. you can see the smashed window airbag taken from the steering wheel. police say airbags are easy to remove and they're portable as well. unethical repair shops will take those stolen airbags and install them in customers cars, charging full price as if they were new. a
