we brought this litigation against the congressional map. speaking what have black voters in alabama have been entitled to for a very long time, which is an additional minority opportunity district. and as a.g. holder mentioned, we brought -- we also filed lawsuits in georgia and louisiana and florida and this kind of tidal wave of black voter suppression when it comes to redistricting that we have seen this cycle and certainly not the first time this cycle. ms. sewell: i can tell you that all of us in the voting rights world were very happy. you guys did a great job at oral arguments, but we were worried that the supreme court wasn't going to do what we knew it needed to do and should do. and that is enforce section 2 of the voting rights act. can you talk about what section means for minority voters? abha: the section 5 protections, that preclearance provision has fallen away. so section 2 remains really the only protection, exactly, the only tool for minority voters, particularly black voters in the south, to assert their right to equal o

what's different here is that swalwell reserved congressional space. that is congressional space.gh his office, presumably using his staff, to defy the subpoena, a valid subpoena of the house. this is a former impeachment manager for the house. so the question is what does the house do about that? they have a lot of options. from censure, to whether he should be allowed to be on committees. he's already been thrown off one committee or barred from being a member of the intelligence committee. but the key here is really that we need to know to what extent did he not only facilitate but encourage what could be a federal crime. and in my view, it was federal criminal contempt what hunter did on that day. >> john: jason smith, the house ways and means committee chairman thinks that hunter biden not only might have been involved in some sort of criminal activity and potentially by association swalwell as well, but he says that hunter biden has precipitated a constitutional crisis. listen to what he said. >> it's clearly a two-tiered justice system. the fact that hunter biden was suppos

troubling, republican members of his body have turned their noses at congressional subpoenas. the chairman of the judiciary committee, one of three committees to carry out this investigation, was issued a subpoena last year by the bipartisan january 6 select committee to testify what he knew about the planning and execution of various attempts to overturn the 2020 election. the january 6 attack on the capitol, and the former president's response to that attack. he willfully defied that subpoena and failed to appear for his scheduled deposition multiple times. now out of compliance with congress himself he is being asked to wield subpoena power as an act of heavy political vengeance. these are not credible actors, this is not a credible investigation. it is a farce, a kangaroo court all to satisfy the four times indicted former president's ego, and as we have seen our publican colleagues are happy to help his attempts of retribution in a desperate attempt to help him in the polls. refusing to cooperate with a congressional subpoena, especially as a member of this body, where we
