connell mcshane has more. he has the latest. connell.orter: the bad news has been the good news as the stock market begins the fourth quarter in impressive fashion. now yesterday's rally was really driven, at least in part, by a relatively weak manufacturing report. today it was a report showing fewer job openings, more layoffs. the idea is a slowing economy may be leads to a fed a little bit less aggressive. that's playing itself out certainly in the bond market where we can forget about 4% for the time-being at least on the benchmark 10-year treasury yield. it is down a two week low. now you look at some of the stock names today, big tech names, leading the market higher. likes of apple, alphabet, amazon, and then there's twitter which has been quite a story. that stock was up today in a big way, thanks to elon musk. musk has offered to close his acquisition of twitter on the terms that he originally agreed to, the price of 54.20 a share, $44 billion. all this coming just ahead of an emergency hearing on the acquisition that was suppos

connell: i look at rising bond yields hitting the market a little bit. earnings have been pretty good. not all of them but it has been a busy day, 23 companies in the s&p and a bunch from last night that factor into the action today. ibm is in that category and it is because of ibm but ibm doing its part today, $5 rise, a report was good, better-than-expected revenue and more importantly saying it expects to top 4 year sales growth targets, the key for ibm is in good demand for its digital services and that upsets the strong dollar which hurts these international giants. at&t raised its outlook for profit and wireless revenue. it continues to add subscribers and the stock price doing well when you're up by 7% as at&t, added 2.2 million wireless subscribers in the first quarters of this year, but we will group these other ones together for the sake of time all reporting today, dow chemical worn it is up $0.76, american airlines, among the other reports we had as well. we talked about dow being in line. the earnings report, stock is having a good reaction

connell mcshane, great to see you. tout gas prices have been coming down. they are turning around. what's driving it? >> there is a short term and longer term story here. short-term prices at the pump is largely regional. bigger problem out west, particularly in california. the average price there was $6.40. they always have higher gas prices than other states. refinery issues. maintenance being done on six refineries in california. that might be skewing the national average a little bit. but there is reason to believe that even though seasonally we might not always see it higher oil prices might lead to higher gas prices going into the rest of fall and winter. opec or opec plus meeting tomorrow may cut production out of vie -- vienna. we have sanctions that could come in on russian supplies in early december. european officials finalizing how that might look. the near and short term outlook aren't great for prices at the pump. >> bill: the american west. washington up $0.41, oregon 45, alaska 45 on down the line. cali
