conner was the 21st homicide victim in the city of des moines in 2015. one of the more shocking crimes in recent memory in the metro came to a conclusion this morning. 20-year old ngor makuey was sentenced for beating his elderly neighbor to death. 73501-73506 "as a result of count one, murder in the first degree, you will be sentenced to life in prison." there were no surprises from judge jeffrey farrell this morning. he handed down the mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. the defendant chose not to address the court before the sentence was read. makuey was convicted last month of the beating death of 97- year old rupert anderson it happened in july of 2014. rupert's wife was seriously injured in the attack. defense. a boone man is also heading to prison on a murder conviction. 34 year old leigh lepon was sentenced to 50 years for shooting his friend, devlin lockman. the 38 year old died from a single gunshot wound to the head. police initially ruled lockman's death as accidental in 2013, but they later filed charges a
