>> well, connie mack's idea sounds interesting. i haven't seen the specifics. but it sounds like the right steps, certainly. look, we've gone from government at all levels, federal, state and local level from being roughly 27% of our economy, that was during the kennedy years to today, 37% of our economy. the democrats say let us tax you more. let us take more of your economy. we are inches from no longer having a free economy. i say, i'm not willing to keep government growing. i'm insistent that we cap the amount of government spending as a percentage of the total economy and balance our budget. those are principles that are critical. i'm going to fight for those things. if i'm president of the united states and if we have republicans in both houses and majority in both houses, you are going to see us finally draw a line on the growth of government. we cannot go on with government borrowing more and more and eating more and more into the future of america's economic vitality. i'm not going to allow that. >> sean: i want to pick that up and maybe get to some sp

florida congressman connie mack joins me now on the curvy couch.ood to see you. >> good to see you, too. thanks for having me. >> it's amazing when we talk about trillions of dollars which up to this point, nobody could calculate in their head and you're saying if we go back to the simple use of the penny, we can solve this problem. how? >> that's right. it's real simple. so in washington, every year there's an automatic increase of spending of 7%, 7.5%, 8%. so every year -- everybody thinks we're at a flat, like we're not spending anymore. we're not raising the rate of spending but every year, we're spending 7 1/2% more a year. my plan says we freeze that. we don't continue to raise, you know, continue to spend more and then we cut 1% a year for six years so that's one penny out of every federal dollar. after six years, we cap spending to 18% of gdp in the seventh year and in the eighth year, we balance the budget and after 10 years, we cut $7.5 trillion. everybody watching this show have had to cut more than one penny out of every dollar, their h
