this is again a collection between jamie raskin and the judiciary committee, gerry connolly and the oversight committee and rosa delauro. this was meant to serve as kind of the hub of democratic ideas and input and then we will communicate that out using the dpcc to get a message to our members. but this a lot of incoming and a lot of ideas from members and this was meant as way to channel those efforts. now separate and apart from that, each committee will be engaged and will be forcefully as you saw gerry connolly and as you for jane raskin forcefully pushing back on these ideas within committee. but the working group will play a a part in how we communicate that broderick and how we handle the collection of ideas and input from our members. >> chairman aguilar is actually right, and one of their reasons for this is because there's so much stuff happening, the american people and even members of congress may not know about all these different lawsuits and what's happening in those lawsuits. it turns out the administration is losing most of his lawsuit because what they're doing is brazenly

connolly. >> thank you, madam chair. thank you for having this first hearing on doge. you know, improper payments is not a new subject. i remember joining steve lynch and then todd plats, republican member from pennsylvania, in my freshman year talking about improper payments. at that time improper payments were in the range of $35 billion a year. they are now in the range of $280 billion a year and times ten we could cut almost $3 trillion from the debt if we addressed improper payments in a deliberative way. we can also secondly enforce the tax code. it's estimated that at least half a trillion dollars a year is left on the table uncollected but owed because of lack of resources in the i.r.s. again, times ten is 5 trillion over a decade. finally we can modernize federal i.t. systems which i've championed for years. legacy systems alone could save hundreds of millions a year in operating and maintenance costs. so if we want to be serious about it, let's be serious about it. the way not to do it is to fire the people charged with the remit of waste, fraud and abuse, na

connolly: good afternoon. we are here today not only to fight for federal employees who dedicate themselves every day to a humanitarian task. we are here to save lives because that is what usaid does. you name it, usaid their. in the fight against hiv, the fight to protect the uyghur population in china. the fight to make sure there is food security everywhere, usaid is there. it is the lead development agency in the world. no one elected elon musk to dismantle it. we are going to fight in every way we can. in the courts. in public opinion with the bully pulpit. in the halls of congress. and here at usaid itself. we are not going to let the injustice happen. congress created this agency with the foreign assistance act of 1961 and if you want to change it, you have to change that law. it is a matter of statute, a matter for congress to deal with, not an unelected billionaire oligarch. one of the things that is going to come up soon, congressman connolly and the democrats are going toall for the republicans to subpoena elon musk and have them come to congress and actually testify about what he is doing and why. we would love to have an opportunity to test out what he knows about issues like that, what he is doing, the secret information that he has been getting. the conflict of interest issues, you know, as congressman garcia discussed a minute ago, he is going through materials where he's got open cases filed against him and o.s.h.a. others. what is he doing with that information? donald trump said he would make sure there are no conflicts of interest, but i don't think we can trust the conflict of interest chief in charge to take care of that. we don't want the fox to be guarding the henhouse. we need to have him come up here and explain what he is doing, but ultimately he needs to go, and we need to do this the right and legal way with respect to managing the government. >> with mvc. you mentioned the subpoena. can you talk about other action items you can take

and representative connolly made a motion last week to subpoena him. republicans actually blocked that motion in the committee. so i find it very strange that, you know, the republicans are eager to talk up all of this work. the richest man in the world, a successful businessman who's somehow streamlining the federal government. but they don't want him to come in front of congress and actually answer real questions about what he's finding. and here's the thing. i want to really make sure that we emphasize this. the treasury payment systems that he and his silicon valley buddies are hacking, in which the courts have shut down, actually tell you nothing about improper payments. and so what we really want to know is, what is he doing inside of our most sensitive data systems? we're talking about systems that pay our soldiers, that keep our government running, that pay your social security. there is absolutely no reason why any private citizen should have access to those data systems. more or less a private billionaire who bought his way into the white hou
