what won it for connor lamb is that donald trump is historically unpopular, period. yeah, he came in to the district over the weekend and maybe caused it to tighten a little bit. but connor lamb won because people do not like -- buyer's remorse about having elected donald trump. we've seen that. there's 118 districts, charles, that are kind of less red where republicans hold seats. those people -- if you won by 5 or 10 or 15 and you're republican, and you won by that little last time, you have to look at the race. you go, why am i going to knock my head against the wall to be embarrassed this fall? >> madison, that would make sense if connor lamb didn't run on a pro gun, pro tariff, pro tax cut, anti-abortion platform. if you didn't know any better, you thought he was the republican candidate. >> right. a lot of people have been saying that. what i think the main focus should be here, the fact that special elections are not always indicative of what we'll see in the mid-terms. we always have lower turnout in the special elections. people don't know what's going on an

connor lamb.hese district went, a number of the small communities more suburban affluent did vote for hillary clinton in 2016 by fairly big numbers. connor lamb needs to turn out a lot of votes out of there if he is mitigating losses in the more red areas that are more heavily for trump. this candidate connor lamb is not hillary clinton. he is very much part of that region. he is talking about local issues. not campaigning against the president. he knows that president trump is very popular down there. he is very much with the president on this issue of tariffs on imported steel. so there is no daylight between him and the republican candidate. so the question is now, whether or not those more affluent folks up in the suburbs come out and whether those union workers, unions are a very, very big force. very diminished in other parts of the country. with you in steel country, coal country, a big force. they endorsed connor lamb, whether or not that will bring him over to victory, is yet to be seen.

they declared connor lamb was the apparent winner.the desk makes an call like that, every note matters. they're calling him the apparent winner. that was followed by the "new york times," in ielts estimatio they, too, are saying that conor lamb's lead appears to be insurmountable given everything that's been counted. so newspapers and news organizations don't get to officially declare winners in american elections. there's been no concession from the republican in the race. there's the possibility there will be some sort of recount but it looks like conor lamb declaring victory wasn't a psychological tactic. it appears right now he has won that congressional seat. democrats are over the moon about that. not just because they wanted conor lamb to win that seat, but his victory would represent a 20-point swing in democrats' direction from how hillary clinton fared in that district. at the "daily kos" today there was a little bit of chest pounding over how big a win this was in democrats' direction. if democrats everywhere do as well as
