consumers, it gives information on products and services being advertising and it reduces their search costs. it's critical to our economy and to our democracy. and as i indicated in my written testimony, i cohored a series of papers about the two large digital platforms that are supported by online advertising, google and facebook. we relied on information made public by the uk's cma. our analysis led us to conclude there's a strong basis to believe that google has illegally monopolized and/or maintained a monopoly in the market for digital advertising. specifically we concluded that google developed a dominant search engine and used that position to extend into what is called the ad tech stack. the various technological functions that match. google occupies every layer of this ad tech stack with market shares as high as 90%. from the standpoint of an antitrust lawyer, this is a big red flag. i'm aware of no other market in which a single firm represents buyers and sellers and determines who buys what and at what price. moreover, google appears to have undertaken a series of efforts to use its market position and advantages to exclude competitors. the end result is that if you're an advert
