i'm contessa brewer in for frank holland. let's kickoff the hour with the check of the stock futures. red across the board and the dow coming off its first positive day in five. right now, it is indicated to open lower by almost 100 points. the s&p 500 off fractionally about .2%. the nasdaq indicated to open lower by 100 points. the key today, of course, will be the reaction to the nvidia earnings. third quarter sales almost doubled on the year, but the outlook in line with estimates. the stock is lower in early trade by 3%, but there's a lot of investors hanging on every word in the earnings call. we'll have more on that in a moment. >>> in crypto, bitcoin has hit a new all-time high trading above $97,000 for the first time ever following a report yesterday that president-elect trump is weighing a new white house initiative devoted solely to crypto. right now, it's higher. bitcoin is higher by 3.5%. we'll be watching this and dive into those details a bit more. once more, investors investing in bitcoin surpassed $100 billion

our contessa brewer joins us now with the story. contessa, good morning.y state, except for alaska, is dealing with drought issues. >> reporter: that's right. we heard from new jersey fire department over the weekend and they had more than 500 wildfires to fight. we had a wildfire close to cnbc headquarters. the terrain was so steep, they lifted buckets from the hudson to fight that. in the north, an 18-year-old pa parks worker died fighting the fire. in new jersey, it's actually the driest on record. the government shows moderate to exceptional drought conditions in 49 states. here is the map from drought.gov. this has had a real economic impact. cr drought is the second costliest after hurricanes. last year, it caused $14 billion in economic losses according to aon and $6.5 billion of losses in crop damage which is the biggest insured loss across the globe. surpassing the maui wildfires which was linked to drought. this year, the worst drought conditions happened in the finfall. experts tell me it could affect the planting of the winter wheat. barge pric

let's get over to contessa brewer who has a look at this morning's premarket movers. >> good morningu. start off with shares of target. are we seeing a lot of action here. those shares have just plummeted after target reported earnings that missed revenue and profit expectations for the third quarter. target lowered fourth quarter and full-year earnings guidance. ceo brian cornell said lingering softness in discretionary categories was to blame along with pricing pressures like the port strike that hampered retail giants' third quarter. you're seeing the shares off by 18% and that has now erased the stock year-to-date gains. we'll continue to keep our eye on that. but target is also dragging down other retailers this morning. we're seeing macy's down about a percent and a half, dollar tree off by 3.5%, kohl's off 1.5% and nordstrom. the whole retail bucket hurt by what target had to say this morning. netflix, reaching fresh all-time highs. it says 108 million people worldwide viewed that boxing match between jake paul and mike tyson last weekend. the shares are up almost a percent in

contessa brewer reports from the hudson valley. >> reporter: you know americans will bias many as 30 million live christmas trees this year. the biggest day of year to buy them, today. i'm about two hours north of new york city. they say they are holding the prices steady to where they were last year. that's in spite of northeast drought that grabbedda a lot of headlines though it really affects seedings. en in we have helene that just slammed north carolina so hard. that's the second biggest producing state for christmas trees trees. they were hit really hard. the roads and the bridges were repaired in time for their mature trees to make it to market as well. weather is not the biggest factor for these growers. they are especially worried about labor supply and inflation. trees are a labor intensive crop. immigration really matters to getting enough workers and by far the biggest worry is consumers pulling back on spending. that's why 65% said they will hold prices steady in spite of paying higher costs. median price is $75 but that could change next year if trump tariffs hold. so,
