the chp in contra costa is investigating a fatal crash that involves at least five cars south of caminoiablo. it happened just after midnight. the investigation kept the road closed until about two hours ago. investigators say one person died at the scene, another had suffered major injuries. a driver crashed his car into a fire hydrant south of market district this morning. here is the result, a fountain of water shooting some 60 feet into the air at first street. the driver was found at howard street around the corner. he was not injured but police did arrest him on suspicion of drunk driving. city crews were delayed shutting off the water because a control valve had been paved over. escalating gang violence on the past two weeks have police stepping up patrols. now officers are getting civilian help from the guardian angels. >> the guardian angels are now on patrol in san francisco miss district. a gang shooting last saturday led to a rival gang's trashing of the victim's memorial here on the corner of 17th. that produced another shooting here on 24th street where a man was wounded b

good evening, another arrest in a police corruption case in contra costa county. facing conspiracy charges tonight. it's part of a broader investigation into the theft and sale of confiscated drugs. john says local authorities are not elaborating. >> the arrest of a contra costa county sheriff comes as investigators continue to look into alleged police corruption in a state narcotics enforcement team. district attorney, mark peterson told cbs 5 that the deputy was arrested friday night. the sheriff's office in a press release said the four year veteran was arrested for possession and transfer of an assault rifle and conspiracy to possess and sell controlled substances. da peterson would not comment on what connection he may have to a commander. welsh was arrested last month and passing them to private investigator, butler, who allegedly helped sell the drugs. butler on the right, are charged with more than two dozen felony counts of allegedly stealing, possessing, and selling methamphetamine, marijuana, and prescription drugs and steroids. the san francisco chroni

in a widening drug scandal in contra costa county we're learning about stephen trey natty who is arrested along with a top narcotics officer and an investigator who are accused of selling drug evidence. the latest suspect may be linked to a separate scheme. ann? >> reporter: oscar tanabe is out on bail, so they are not under the usual time constraints of filing charges within 48 hours. it could be next month before we see the officer in court. stephen tanabe was arrested on suspicion of possession and transfer of an assault rival and conspiracy to sell substances, he is is a sheriff's deputy who works as a police officer. they say tanabe's arrest was the result of an ongoing investigation into the state department of juts central contra costa narcotics team. last month the team leader and a private investigator were arrested on charges of selling drugs. >> but now that we're getting other information about other officers perchance being involved it goes complicate it. >> reporter: he represents curtis. he says his client was only involved with butler, no one else. >> i look at that invest

scientists tell the "contra costa times" that the biggest tsunami threat could come if there was a massive earthquake 9.0 or larger in southern alaska sending a huge wave that could flood the port of oakland in four or five hours. if we look at the maps that scientists have developed here, it shows you just why oakland and alameda are most susceptible to that kind of flooding. they are geographically situated at the end of the golden gate strait and could bear the brunt of a big wave like that. they say up to 165 structures in that area would be threatened. now, of course, we saw some of the devastating effects that a relatively minor tsunami had on santa cruz harbor. experts tell the "contra costa times" that area would actually be spared and really any other areas south of santa clara county, they would likely miss any heavy damage. now, another factor that makes the port of oakland such a vulnerable area to that kind of flooding is the massive ships in this area and also the huge cargo containers that are parked here and, of course, the thousands of employees who work here, as well. sci
