we just spoke with contra costa county district one supervisor chanel preston soquel's. she says that there all the employees have been evacuated. there may be a report of one employee who may have suffered minor injuries, but we don't know the extent. as you can see behind me, still huge plumes of smoke coming out from the refinery. and getting and also off to the left. you may see some flaring, but flaring at a refinery is usually controlled. burning of excess combustible gas that are produced during normal operations or in emergencies. now scales preston says this fire is being reported as a level two notification. that means there may have been hazardous material released or could be released. contra costa county health officials released a public advisory, as you mentioned, saying that this incident could impact residents in martinez and pacheco, and they're advising those individuals with respiratory problems to stay inside. now, there are road closures reported around the refinery. at this time, there are no reports of any evacuation orders or shelter in place is

contra costa health is advising that people with respiratory sensitivities remain indoors.cting another health assessment later this morning. now those huge plumes of black smoke, of course, were visible for miles. typically when we are reporting on incidents here at martinez, at the martinez refining company, they are smaller bursts of flames or steam that are released from flare stacks as part of managing incidents like this. this fire felt explosive in comparison, and we heard several reports from people who live in the area that they heard a very loud explosion before they spotted the flames. now, martinez refining company issuing a statement just after midnight saying, quote, our top priorities are the safety and security of responders, as well as maximizing protection of public health and safety. now, the most recent update received from local officials also came last night. here's what they said. >> hats off to our public safety. this has been a countywide effort. calfire was here from the very beginning, and i could tell you there has been resources throughout count

now contra costa health is investigating the burn and must complete a report by tomorrow afternoon. people who live nearby are upset as this is not the first problem with the refinery in the past few years. in 2022, the martinez refining company accidentally released 20 tons of spent catalyst. that was just the smoke. i mean, last a few years, back when they had that explosion. where about they layered that ash all over the place where i had garden going. i lost all of that, you know, so not too happy with them. i wish they would do something about it. find them, close them down or whatever. but it's not working for us out here in the community. the fire over the weekend injured six workers. they were treated. luckily, none was serious. the company says it's possible there could be flaring at the refinery for the rest of the week. now to the story that's impacting everyone's bank accounts. president trump is putting the planned tariffs on goods from mexico and canada on hold for at least the next month. this comes after he signed an executive order over the weekend to place new tari
