that's what the contra costa county sheriff's office is saying tonight in response to complaints following a large smokey fire. abc7 news was in richmond where a fire at simms metal management company triggered a massive shelter in place order yesterday. richmond's mayor today voiced his frustration about a delay in issuing a community alert. >> the warning system thing is an absolute total joke. it's been around now for about 25 years. it's never worked. >> the fire started just after 5:00 p.m. yesterday. a statement today from the sheriff's office says it received alert information from richmond's fire department at 5:55. it also states mayor butts' statement that it took an hour to get out the first alert after receiving the necessary information from richmond fire is totally inaccurate, misleading and presumptuous. >> these are some of the thousands of stolen devices fremont police say they recovered when busting an international fencing ring. it started late last year as a car burglary investigation but quickly expanded. detectives say the thieves were after a laptops and tablets. fre

this is video sent to us by the contra costa county fire department. right now firefighters are mopping up hot spots and keeping a close eye on any flare ups. one person suffered minor injuries and a total of four people were in the home when the fire started. fire fighters say everyone inside the home was outside when firefighters arrived on scene. the started at about 3:45 this morning on spring brook road in walnut creek. fire investigators haven't been able to get inside to see what caused the fire. but they did tell us one of the people who got out was found laying in front of the home because of mobility issues, they had to get that person away from the home.no other homes were damaged by this fire. but as you can see the home is still smoldering which is why firefighters expect to be out here for a few more hours. reporting live in walnut creek, lydia pantazes kron4 news.
