the top ones through contra costa county, vasco leaving contra costa county an easy drive. san mateo bridge with a clear view of the high rise and taillights heading to the peninsula. >> all clear as we are starting out with our temperatures this morning. in the 50s and 70s. it's going to be nice and a good break from some hotter temperatures that are headed our way by the end of the week. morgan hill reaching 81 and 77 in cupertino. moving toward the east bay, up to 80 in pleasanton, 68 oakland and hayward headed towards 73 degrees. redwood city looking at a high of 74. another nice day. and comfortable in san francisco with some low to mid 60s. for the north bay we're up to 84 in clearlake and napa today, reaching 75 degrees. we've been talking about all of the changes headed our way and it's going to get hotter as high pressure moves in and by the end of the week, a shift in our wind direction will bring in more smoke as well as hotter temperatures, especially for the central valley that starts to move into the bay area. let's check out ukiah. one of our usual hot spots.

those shown up in contra costa county lots. greens the lake tahoe area has been miserable those purples are just about as bad as it gets. where are there as bad as it gets for air quality in some cases well over 250 in on the on the scales and that's in the unhealthy range the models do this with the smoke. you see the general area moving out but then it wraps back around as we get into thursday look at that so that's when the wind shift we're going to see a wind shift. that's when the warm up occurs right so tomorrow and thursday kind of nice and mild. but then friday and saturday the winds wrap around and that smoke wants to come back into the valley so the smoke could be a concern for us on friday saturday especially in the inland bay valleys and again we've been fortunate because the bay area pretty much almost always has some surface level sea breeze this time of year in august and that's been helping us quite a bit, especially cities like oakland and san francisco but keep your eyes on that we do have fog at the coast rig

a house fire spread to dry brush in contra costa county. this started around 7:00 on old school road in the small community east of danville. want to show you cell phone video. the helicopter circling the plume of smoke as the fire burned. one witness tells us at least one person who was in that burning building was taken away in an ambulance. no word yet on that person's condition. flames then spread to the surrounding area. the contra costa county sheriff's department issued a warning that those living nearby may be forced to evacuate but it did not come to that. the house extinguished and the wildfire burned just nine acres. >>> the dixie fires has now been raging for a month with no signs of slowing down. fire crews say the flames are headed toward the small lumber town of westwood 40 miles north of greenville. most of that community burned down last week. the fire has grown to more than 552,000 acres. firefighters tell us they haven't been able to improve their containment over the fire in the last 24 hours. that remains at 31%. >>> it

bradford island in east contra costa county, accessible only by ferry caught fire early monday morning and has been burning ever since. many of the 48 residents have been evacuated. the fact that the 2200 acre island which is used for wheat, farming, cattle grazing and natural gas extraction, is actually reclaimed peat moss makes it more complicated, so the levied up below sea level track burns even more doggedly, the normal farmland and it's going to require us to be able to flood the island to be able to fully extend it was this fire. this island is so remote and so hard to get to. we haven't seen one piece of official fire equipment here. the other problem is with the wind blowing constantly. this fire could last for hours and hours and hours. we have no idea how much damage has been done or will be done earlier on the eastern contra costa fire protection district sent one engine to the island by ferry with assistance from other county and state agencies, but they were not effective against the wind driven fire. leaving it up to those who stayed behind to protect their properties. n
