abc's christiane cordero is here now with the latest. christiane. >> good morning, brianna, and good morning. today cease fire talks come as we learn about potential arrest warrants for members of israel's government. this morning, top israeli officials reportedly believe they could face arrest warrants from the international criminal court in the near future, possibly this week. they include prime minister benjamin netanyahu and israel's defense minister, according to the new york times. the israeli officials could potentially be accused of preventing the delivery of humanitarian aid to the gaza strip and pursuing an excessively harsh response to the hamas led october seventh attacks on israel. netanyahu has defended his government's response. >> put yourself in israel's shoes. >> we were attacked. unprovoked attack, murderous attack on october 7th, the worst attack on jewish people since the holocaust. i think we've responded in a way that goes after the terrorists and tries to minimize the civilian population in which the terrorists e

administration struggling with how to keep the situations under control cnn legal analyst carrie cordero joins me now, carrie, how do you see the way colleges and universities are responding? funding to these protests well, i think there's a big difference across the different universities and colleges that we're seeing. >> i think in the, in the example of columbia, perhaps what happened is that they allow the students to have the encampment's on campus, which may have been not really in accordance with the university's policies for a longer time. and then when it started to get the situation out of control students were being harassed and so forth. then they tried to bring it back and it's much harder to bring the situation under control once they have allowed it to continue for some time help explain the difficult balance administrators have here when it comes to protecting free speech. and also being able to provide a safe and secure learning environment for everyone absolutely. so the universities have to do all of those things. they have to protect the safety and the security of th

abc's christiane cordero is here with details. christiane. good morning. >> good morning. alison.h. israel's military has apologized for the attack, calling it a grave mistake. but president biden says he's outraged. this morning, after an israeli airstrike in gaza killed the seven aid workers for the organization world central kitchen. president biden is criticizing israel, saying he is outraged and heartbroken by the aid workers deaths, adding this conflict has been one of the worst in recent memory in terms of how many aid workers have been killed. the group was traveling in a three vehicle convoy with two armored cars, world central kitchen says despite coordinating the route with israel's military, the group was hit while leaving a warehouse where they had just unloaded 100 tons of humanitarian aid. you can see the damage here a massive hole in one vehicle, the world central kitchen logo visible on the roof. one victim, jacob flickinger, was a dual u.s. canadian citizen. >> these people are heroes. they run into the fire, not away from it. >> reports say israel believed a ham

carry cordero and elie honig le do you think that they will be able the prosecutors and defense and the judge, will they be able to find an impartial jury? is there is it possible? for donald trump to be tried by an impartial jury in manhattan. >> so the technical legal answer to that jake is yes >> the >> prosecutors were correct. first of all, to charge this case in manhattan, sometimes prosecutors engage in a little bit of forum shopping sometimes you have an option of multiple counties are multiple districts, and maybe you look for one that's more favorable here, manhattan was the right and probably only place to charge the case. and as we see now, we're going through this jury selection process, which is meant to weed out people who are unduly biased by the way, it is remarkable that more than half the people said right off the bat knowing one paragraph of information about this case, i can not be biased and walked out the door. that's gotta be a world's record. and i think it speaks to just how polarizing donald trump trump is. so that's the sort of, oraa scared people were scared

let's discuss what's going on with cnn, legal and national security analysts carry cordero, she's joining us right now. how concern carry should trump be trump, the former president about the potential for prosecutors to call evan corcoran, is now former lawyer as a witness. >> well, he would probably be a pretty powerful witness. first of all, no lawyer really wants to have to testify against their former client. and so it's it would be a pretty extraordinary situation, but this case really the key to it is the obstruction part of it. and that's the part that evan corcoran would be best positioned to be able to testify if it comes to that because the fact that he would hadn't information that the president was trying to obstruct the former present with trying to obstruct the investigation and his knowledge, it takes a really high standard brake the attorney-client privilege, but even attorneys, if they are witness to evidence of a crime have to comply with the justice system. >> as you don't. this coming monday. so only when a few days away will be the start of the first criminal trial e

and evan perez boris let's dig deeper now with cnn legal analysts carry cordero, kerry, thanks so much for being with us this afternoon your view of how jury selection has gone so i think it's gone pretty quickly. really. i mean, given the high-profile nature of the defendant and the fact that this is a former president the fact that they've been able to sort of keep order within the courtroom. i'm sure there was it's very intense security issues that go on with having the former president there all the time. so i mean, really the smoothness with which this process has taken place this week, i think is a really great testament to all of the court personnel of the security personnel, the way that the judge has ruled well, the proceedings, it's gone about as smoothly as i think one could expect, given the high-profile nature, i chuckled when you said keeping order in the courtroom because as we've seen before with donald trump and given the gag order that he's facing facing, that can be a challenge. i do want to ask you about the witness list because the prosecution isn't sharing which w

just one second because i can we have carry cordero here? i do think that there is a question here. i've heard from a lot of lawyers, not just from jared and others. they say there's not as much clarity about what that other offense is that would allow it to become a felony, and that might be intentional. but is that enough in your mind? well, i think some of the issues that professor sugar menn is raising are issues that some of us have been bracing since the original charging document happen, which is that the theory that the prosecutors are using is something that is novel and it is unusual to do that against a former president. so i think that part it has been an observation that has been made consistently. i think a bigger picture here is that the prosecutors are using a theory of the case that they are calling election interference and one of the reasons that i'm not a big fan of this new york case is because election interference for those of us who have been following what's been going on since 2016, election interference is a really serious allegation. we had foreign countr

honig and carry cordero le how rare is it to see this filing from the special counsel taking a very aggressive tone >> well well, if it's exceedingly rare to see a prosecutor express this type of frustration. so directly so unapologetically and i have to say, i understand to an extent where jack smith's coming from when i was a prosecutor, i had occasional moments when i was very frustrated with judges ordinarily what you do is you take a deep breath and you take it down a notch or two. jackson but apparently has not done that. but the reason he's so frustrated here is because judge cannon seems like she's entertaining the idea of instructing the jury at trial on this presidential records act offence, which as paula i think just very nicely laid out lattes basis, in fact, or law. and the other source of frustration for jack smith that's palpable is he can feel the trial date slipping away. it is getting less and less likely every day to the point where it's almost an a possibility now that this case will be tried before the election very significant carry legal experts, as you know, they have

he was a lawyer and you rely on your lawyers joining me now cnn legal analysts carried cordero and cnn correspondent kara scannell, who has been cnn's eyes and ears and then some inside the courtroom covering this trial, qarrah, i do want to start with you on this gag order what is the expectation? what are you hearing from your sources in the court? any sense of we don't know how it's going to come down, but even the win well, we're waiting for the judge to issue this decision yesterday after the hearing, he said he would reserve decision on this but it came after what was a at times contentious hearing with the judge becoming frustrated with donald trump's legal team trying to not responding to his questions as he put it, because prosecutors so i've said that trump has violated this gag order at least ten times. >> they have the interview that you just played a clip of trump actually gave yesterday morning on his way to court before this hearing took place, but it echoes some of the other statements that prosecutors have said are problematic. so the judge was pressing trump's attorne

i want to bring in our legal and political experts for analysis right now, carry cordero is the introduction of trump's previous legal problems, something that judge merchan might allow come up if trump testifies. >> well, of the many different potential areas that the prosecutors want to bring up. the carriages reported on. i think some of them potentially could come in, but i would be surprised if all of them would. the issues that pertain directly to his credibility. so again, this is all in the context of if he decides to take the stand it is his right to do that or not do that as any criminal defendant. >> but things that go to the specific issue of his credibility, i think those the judge would take carefully, but if it starts to sound like the prosecutors are trying to just bring any derogatory information regarding his involvement in the legal system. >> i think the judge would want a cabin that to some degree alayna, as you know, trump has said, he is more than ready to testify in this upcoming trial, but he said that in the past that he is willing to testify before various forums,

legal analysts carry cordero and steve vladeck are both with us as well steve, let me start with you. help us better understand this obstruction law and what's at stake in this us supreme court case? >> sure. what american paulo really did a nice job of laying out the basics. there have been, gosh, multiple hundred convictions so far of defendant's relatedness, september to january sex, there are a number of other cases pending and this charge, this obstruction charge under section 15, 12 c2, is one of the most common charges across all of those cases. so if the supreme court were to reverse the dc circuit, if it were to narrow this statue wolf that would require a whole bunch of certainly at least re, sentence ends of defendants who were convicted of multiple charges. it might even require the justice department to abandon someone of these cases. i didn't. that's why for the whole body of january 6 cases, we're watching this oh, carefully. but paul is right with regard to former president trump, two of the four counts against him in the january 6 indictment are about this offense, bu
