corey mills joins me by phone. we should note he's running as a republican for a congressional seat in florida. corey, good to have you with us today. i want to talk about what happened with this family. my first question is, do you have any understanding of what is going on with these planes on the ground in northern afghanistan? >> thanks for having me. yes. last time that we had manifested a couple of people on these flights, we have a flight that was a proved by the state department, the taliban and department of defense. right before it was getting ready to leave, the state department was the reason that they disapproved it because they claim that they had to vet a manifest. there was an aircraft that was going to take off that had been approved but the state department wanted to "vet the manifest." whatever that means. if they would have been sitting there surrounded by taliban, they probably would have got the manifest quicker. what is happening now, the taliban has been holding on all of these planes, hamza

i spoke with a member of this group, corey mills, who is a veteran working with other veterans to geteverishly around the clock for weeks to get this family first out of kabul where they failed to get on a flight, and then up to masar-i-sharif where they couldn't get on another flight. navigating the series of 20 taliban checkpoints. he said it was their group that did the vast majority of this work. it was only at the last moment that the state department swooped in, tried to work with the taliban to get this family through. failed, he says, but once they gotta cross the border into a third country they are not naming for security reasons, then the u.s. embassy there finally provided consular services. we heard a little more about this from congressman mullen on "new day" earlier today. let's take a listen. >> we had her there for 24 hours before the state department was even aware she was there. they didn't show up until a few hours after we -- before we got her across. for them to say they facilitated is a lie. we had to go through over $20 checkpoint, each one of those checkpoints
