professor rose, i know that you're a little bit more sympathetic to the critique that cornell west andy had but was the language too harsh? >> part of the problem is we're busy personalizing what has been a profound social shift. the right wing has successfully moved the right to the center so the old right is the new center and consequently what would have prettily been the center is now considered the left and so a really full progressive position is almost off the table. so it's not i think the analysis is all that wrong, it is that it is part of a much broader context of the shift. unfortunately, as you just pointed out in your previous segment, the media is very interested in the sort of, you know, the personal back and forth, rather than the serious realities that frame it, so that's the case in the petraeus story and also the case here. the content of what professor west and tavis smiley are saying is entirely true. what happens is those ideas are really literally pushed to the margins so when they come up, they look extreme joe biden insane and over the top. they're not at all.
