it's not simply corn and soybean. where the monoculture comes in is that we have a meat-based society. and is where your sore been -- soybean and corn is going. we are not even eating the kind of corn that is being fed to the cows and chickens. until you change the way in which we do things, rather than going from a meat-based food to something else, then you will not have those rich cross and plants- rich crops and that you perceive to be a minor culture. of all of it, 70% those monoculture crops are being fed to livestock. if we stop eating so much livestock, we will have less monocrops. >> and one of the reasons that they are monocultures is that these are low margin crops. you need to grow a lot of them. it's not like a tomato where you get a high return. one of the things we need to keep coming back to with discussion about agriculture is that net farm income is negative. anytime we are asking for farmers to give something up, we have to remind them -- we have to remind ourselves they are already in the hole. >>
