but john cornyn particularly, i'm from texas.has a particular obligation, texas has more black citizens than any other satate. so he has a responsibility to stand up for their rights. in austin, they're trying to pass a bill that would take polling places away from black communities and put them into white communities. in ft. worth, it's about 80% minority in one district. it would lose half the polling places, and they would be shifted to white communities. they're trying to cut back on early voting, drive-through voting, late night voting, even sunday morning souls to polls voting. they're targeting black and brown texans with surgical precision. it is racist, and i think it's right to call that what it is. these are racist acts trying to discriminate against some texans. >> imagine what happens if democrats in the majority don't stop it. that will be an existential crisis in the midterms. >> i'm all for infrastructure, but they got to save our democracy. >> you got to go to manchin and say, show me your for the people bill. sh

she was standing next to john cornyn when she was delivering that and i think the visual to standing next to one of the top republicans in the senate, this gibberish about the filibuster and paying bromides to bipartisanship is sort of posturing right now to seem like a reasonable centrist figure in her home state of arizona, which is all well and good. right now this discussion is happen manage the abstract, don. we've really only had one effort so far, one major bill in the senate that has been derailed by the filibuster. it was the vote on the commission. what we need is a ramp-up. like the for the people act, the voting rights act to come up in quick succession so that a narrative takes shape about the consistent and repeated obstruction of measures taken. and i think chuck schumer knows that. that is why he's teeing up the for the people bill this month. all these measures need to come up in rapid succession so that it's clear that one side is aligned in support of these proposal. and but for the filibuster, they'd be passing. the block vote on the commission was the first step,

there have been talks between john cornyn and murphy.t's your position especially in the wake of the deadly shootings we've already seen this year? >> absolutely. there was a lot of hope this year there would be some sort of major gun control compromise coming out because democrats held control of the government for the first time in a while, but, you know, those negotiations that you mention between senator chris murphy who is the democrats' point man, pretty much fell apart. senator murphy told me that he was still engaged negotiations with several other republican senators about a plan to -- on a slightly smaller scale expand back on tax over more sales and opposed to all transfers, as many democrats want. perhaps that legislation could come up as early as next month, and this is likely to include some sort of expansion of background checks, online sales on craigslist-type sites and gun shows. it will be interesting to see how this plays out, but they're still propoals headed by the republicans. there's still the possibility of a fili
