we greatly respect navy, marine corps and guard safety policy. cal fire has an aviation policy as well. we work cooperatively with the agencies here at the table to ensure when we are engaged in an aerial fire fighting event we are working within each other's policies. we have trained in a work around, we can do close air support with navy and marine corps aircraft, with the current system we have. would we like to improve upon it? absolutely. we have gone very high up in the organization to try and look at getting the r210 radio modified to the point where it can work on our vhf spectrums, that's one of our challenges we need to move forward with. but overall we're confident when we do call upon dod assets to integrate with civilian aircraft, the training regimen we put forth will keep aircrews safe and also have them be effective. there was a lot of questions from a political level as well as a public level. you've got aircraft sitting at north island, just launch them, get them in the fight. it was hard to explain to them that that's a very de

some enlisted in the marine corps. on june 18th, 2006, which i want to let you know is a date that i will never forget, i shipped off to paris island and this is where i would spend my 18th birthday. happy birthday, right? but it's not really as bad as the next three birthdays because my 19th birthday i was in sniper school hell week. my 20th birthday i was in hell week of sniper school mountain training in bridgeport, california. so i had a lot of good birthdays piffling parris island, i was shipped off to north carolina where it completed the infantry training. after that, i went off to hawaii where i would be stationed the next four years. and this is where i also attended sniper school. so, after attending sniper school i quickly shipped off to iraq. and in iraq i didn't get to complete my tour because i was bitten on my right hand by a vicious slider and i actually suffered severe nerve damage plan to let everyone in the room know that the enemy will stop at nothing. they even train the spiders to bite us. we work closely with cal guard, navy and marine corps aviation. we do that with squadron training. still have khal lefrpg wills, i'm not going to lie to you. we have issues where tactical to air communication is difficult. cal guard, we purchased the radios for national guard aircraft and they installed them in their aircraft so we have robust communications with california national guard, with navy and marine corps it's still a work in progress. we have a work around with that with respect to tactical communications and we use coordinating helicopters to handle air to ground tactical situations and that is relayed to the aircraft that are in trail. it's not perfect but it's a work around and it keeps everybody in the fight. >> prior to 20011 2011 the navy fire fighting capability was concentrated in one squadron. in 2011 it began to expand to other helicopter squadrons. one consequence of that would be multiple squadrons providing aircraft to cal fire to support the fire fighting effort and one somewhat simple but very effective solution was the use of defense connect on line, the

the marine corps fun run is today. the marine corps marathon is tomorrow. there is a big aids walk in town today. today will be the nicest dave the weekend. off to a beautiful, quiet start this morning. just high clouds drifting on in. temperatures are generally in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees. we'll stay that way for much of today. clouds will gradually lower and thicken as we go through the rest of the afternoon and rain drops are possible. could see a few drops during the day but the bulk of the steadier rain shows up after dark tonight and through tomorrow. there is your current temperature. upper 50 to near 60 right now. you can see on storm 4 radar a couple drizzly drops possible in upper montgomery county and also down toward charlottesville. most of these showers out across western west virginia will stay away from us today and these rain drops along the coast of north carolina are the leading drops now from what is once again hurricane sandy. no weather concerns today. a good day to clean the gutters and storm drains and get yourselves ready.
