mireya villarreal is live in corpus christi.d morning. >> reporter: over the last few hours we have started to feel the wind pick up in the corpus christi area. there's lightning all around us. we have seen rain come through this region. the outer bands of tropical storm harold come into the south texas area bringing rain to much needed parts of south texas. what we know, north of corpus christi there is a potential, high potential, for coastal flooding. we could see storm surge in the area. activity starts to pick up in the bay one to three feet. there's a prediction of about 5 to 8 inches of rain and some of the more heavily affected areas. the biggest concern is coastal flooding. the potential for flooding. we do know this storm is moving very quickly. could end up in the del rio area probably by early this afternoon. while we may not see a large amount of rain and this storm won't linger, there is still a very big concern for flooding. experts, city leaders are saying if you don't have to be on the road, try and stay indoors

for example, corpus christi on monday looking at a high temperature around that 97 degree mark. with the humidity, it's going to feel more lik114. new orleans, not much better. the high temperature likely just below triple digits but that heat index is going to feel more like 113. even states farther to the west, we're looking at incredibly hot temperature, albuquerque on saturday topping out at 102 degrees that is the hottest august date ever for this area. now, some good news for that city specifically, that is, temperatures are going to start coming back down, into the 90s for much of the upcoming week. keep in mind the average this time of year for albuquerque is 90 degrees. we're expected to be five to seven degrees above normal, i guess that's better than the 10 to 15 degrees above normal that they've spent much of the summer. records possible for many locations not just today but even into tuesday. you're looking at about 100 possible records today and tomorrow for some areas. and heat locations could break records both days in a row. another day for severe thunderstorms,

right now for the most part, although we're still looking for the possibility of flooding in the corpus christirea. but still there's many more storms to come. it is getting very active out there. the temperatures running a warmer than normal now in the atlantic. and so here we go. we've got this right now, just a tropical depression herald that will continue to track across southern parts of texas and all the way up into new mexico during that the line there, you can expect to see some heavy rainfall, maybe some places for maybe 6 inches of rain, some of the mountainous areas, maybe as much as 10 inches of rain. next storm to watch out for this one. tropical storm franklin that will be making its way across the dominican republic and haiti and overnight tonight, they're likely going to see some flooding from that storm system as it makes its way through. let's get you back out west and you can see things not bad around the bay area. mostly clear night. so far, we are going to see some patchy fog forming. but summer making a big return for tomorrow. mid 70's and downtown san francisco. 68 the s

brownsville, corpus christi, starting to see the outer bands. this is a 45-mile-per-hour sustained wind storm and i do not think it's going to meant much stronger than that. the good news is it's beneficial rain for texas. it's not going to cause a whole lot of issues. the benefits are better than the risks with that storm. let's put it that way. the tropical force winds up from the center of circulation and we are going to see landfall the next couple of hours for south texas moving into mexico. this is actually a pretty good news story when it comes to the tropics. they need the rain fall and it's going to bring those temperatures down. we like that. we like that about this tropical system. we don't want the flooding to happen but i think all in all it's a good news situation. this is franklin so we'll watch the storm moved westward to the caribbean sea. we'll keep an eye on on the others were systems will watch. actually it's going to move up towards has been your lead -- we just got the 5:00 a.m. advisory and i'm not able to make it look pre

when you factor in the humidity, places like corpus christi are going to feel like 118 today. yes, 118. not much better in brownsville and baton rouge, they'll top out at 115. out west, pretty hot, tucson, phoenix, 5 to 10 degrees above where they normally would be this time of year. throughout the weekend we're looking at at least 100 locations from arizona and florida that could break even more records on top of what they already have. the only areas seeing any form of relief from all of this heat are actually the areas that are dealing with rain, but in those areas it's severe weather. so it's not even relief that they want. you've got very heavy rain coming down across areas of illinois, kentucky, tennessee. the same places we had flooding issues yesterday. now you're talking additional severe threat for today. the main concerns are damaging winds and large hail. we can't rule out a tornado but these are going to be the biggest areas of concern. sioux falls down to oklahoma city. farther over into the mississippi valley and tennessee valley areas. indianapolis, memphis, bi

going to affect southern texas and parts of mexico, this one near brownsville, just south of corpus christi. we have some heavier rain and thunderstorms moving through that area. the winds with this storm system up to 45 miles per-hour is moving quickly at 18 miles per hour. since it is bearing down on the coast of texas, we do have tropical storm watches and warnings naturally in effect. as this moves westward, it is going to weaken once it crosses land and will weaken quickly as it moves through mexico. you see by this afternoon around 1:00, that's where we're already expecting this storm to make its way onshore. heaviest of the rain will be across southern texas. we could see about 3 to 4 inches of rainfall. some areas could get up to 7 inches of rain. keep in mind, though, this area has been under significant drought conditions. so this is actually some much needed rain. be course, when it all comes quickly, that could lead to flooding potential, so that's going to be our biggest concern through the day today. >> thank you so much. >>> also this morning, the death toll from those maui f
