-- the leaders of national civil rights groups have been talking to senator schumer and senator cory bookere, a couple generations ahead of errin, and errin was on training wheels when you were already driving your mercedes, but when we go forward, we're going to face what they did in '64, '65. they're going to try to dilute -- the bill they passed in '64 was not all they wanted but it was all they could get. we've got to make sure that they don't water this bill down. that's the challenge we face as we work with congresswoman and others in the congressional black caucus. but the good news is, we never had a bill on policing to this degree pass the house. and the fact that we've gotten this far is because we have 50 members of the congressional black caucus and because every democratic candidate did say during the primaries that they would do this and it appears that joe biden and vice president kamala harris are keeping their word. the question is now the senate and putting pressure on the senators. >> so, errin, it always seems to go back to this. we hit the senate and then it's literally

. >> trumain, you just heard these three lawmakers and senator cory booker has been a champion of this do you think if we decriminalize marijuana at the federal level and what impact do you think that will have on marijuana users and policymakers across the country? >> well, i think it depends and it's important the framing here that a lot of these current marijuana laws go back to the jim crow era where you had to criminalize black people to push us far into slavery as they could. so these marijuana laws have been another means to suppress black people. as i mentioned before. on the state level we know politics matter and we also see a place like colorado among the first to legalize marijuana that arrested black people for marijuana was still higher than that for whites and they just called it public consumption or disorderly conduct, right? regardless of what the federal government does. on the state level we know that as long as they're going to be using marijuana as a political cudgel then we will see the same results. this is a great first step to rectify what has been framing us

i salute share -- sherrod brown, michael bennet, cory booker who spearheaded this, along with congressman neal in the house, ron wyden and his committee who worked on drafting this and my staffers who spent so much time on making this work as well. salute to them. now, another provision that has received too little attention is the support this bill will provide to disadvantaged farmers. across nearly every statistic, farmers from socially disadvantaged communities fare worse than their white counterparts, suffering from generations of systematic discrimination, land loss, and what secretary vilsack calls a cycle of debt. it's almost something that recalls the days of slavery and sharecropping and tenant farming. recently, these farmers have suffered again. disproportionately from covid-19. the american rescue plan provides more than $10 billion to support our nation's agriculture and sets aside roughly half of it, half of it to disadvantaged communities, particularly black farmers, for debt relief, education, training, and land acquisition. although it's only a small fraction of the over

he's receiving support from some big names including senators elizabeth warren, bernie sanders, cory booker line becoming the first to return to u.s. waters since the start of the pandemic. american cruise lines' coastal cruiser independence departed from florida over the weekend to south carolina. the ship is small enough to bypass current cdc guidelines. the texas state senate passing a bill to cut $5 billion of disputed electricity and service charges from last month's winter storm. that knocked out power to millions of people and put the electrical grid on the brink of collapse. some residents were hit with charges of over $10,000. if signed into law, the bill would wipe out most of the bills. it is time to play, toys r us is planning another comeback. whp global is buying true kids, the parent company of toys r us. earlier this year toys r us closed the only two stores it had left in the u.s. following a relaunch. the stores may reopen in time for the holiday season. hope they bring back the big piano. somewhere in the fox business archives yours truly is jumping all over that piano. j

and we aren't really addressing the upstream factors that lead to this, unfortunate, as cory -- senator bookerughterer. and slaughter of americans, mostly black and brown americans in this country, has gone on for decades. tackling that problem is what we should be focusing on. unfortunately we don't address the root causes of gun violence and we'll see this time and time again. we'll have another hearing in another year, another decade, if we do something now to address the problem fundamentally. what i see every day is the incredible, painful impact on families, on health care staff, who share the burden with their families of gun violence. that does not even include the economic impact of lost productivity, the lost human capital. we're not realizing the best of all americans. and so i really implore the senate judiciary committee to look at constructive ways to address the upstream factors that lead to gun violence in the first place and also address targeted programs and fund targeted programs that can actually impact secondary gun violence related to recidivismr. >> thank you, dr. rogers

what we did as cory booker said, we are cutting the child poverty rate in half. my state -- and i don't think colorado or georgia is much different. my state, 92% of children in my state, 92% of children, will benefit from the child tax credit and their families often also benefit from the earned income tax credit. what's not to love about that? that's why 40 democratic senators are sign ago letter to the united states. we've done this for a year, this expansion of the child tax credit and the earned income tax credit. we should do it permanently. that's what -- that's the mission that the four of us senators sitting in this room have is to make sure this is permanent. because we know there will likely be good economic growth in the next quarter, the quarter after, in large part because of what we've done with this rescue act. i want to make sure the growth is shared by people at the bottom. it so often is. we've seen for 20 years, 30 years we've seen executive compensation explode upwards. we've seen profits up. we've seen worker productivity up. but the workers
