ladies and gentlemen, please, former president bill clinton, senator cory booker. in. 20. well, hello, everybody. i want to jump in is an extraordinary read. you were i thought very vulnerable in it you really opened your heart up your spirit and there's a of themes that i think are really hit me hard and if you don't mind i want start with just reminding you first time you and i really had a conversation it was 2006 i had just elected i hadn't been sworn in yet as mayor of the city of newark. and somebody do you want to beat bill clinton? and i said. hell, yeah. and and so i shoot up from receiving. i get to and i thought it was going to be, you know, one of these formal things that you would just tell tall tales about your stories and experiences. but you greeted me at the door brought in showed me some great pictures on the wall but sat me down because you had a mission you came up to me and i used to do the his imitation of him which i'm to do in front of him now. so i try it. you said to me core, now i need to tell you something, and you said i want to talk to you abo

there are people like senator cory booker who have made some noises about, hey, maybe this is actuallythe right thing to do. maybe we should have guidelines that are more similar to the europeans about food dyes, for example. is there crossover? i mean, i also don't think we should forget that rfk jr.. is part of a storied american democratic political dynasty. yeah. >> look, i think you could potentially see some weird coalitions or what we would say are weird or different coalitions forming around rfk jr.. particularly on this, you know, the topic of food when it comes to snap benefits, for example, there have been lots of calls from democrats to get a lot of these, you know, food programs for lower income individuals to feature more healthy foods. and, you know, i think democrats see an opportunity for someone like rfk jr.. there, you know, when it comes to abortion, for example, that's a question that a lot of republicans have about rfk jr.. >> remember, he may be a populist. >> there may be this horseshoe where you see the left and the right populist sort of coming together in. rf

some of those members include senator dick durbin, senator cory booker, senator raphael warnock, congressman jim clyburn and congressman steve steven horsford, who's a chairman of the congressional black caucus. they're asking biden to consider granting clemency to those who receive stacked sentences before the first step act went into effect during the trump administration. the first step act eliminated the practice of stacking sentences to give the harshest penalties possible. if somebody has a firearm. one one example of someone who fell into stacked sentences is weldon angelos. he was sentenced to 55 years in prison for three small marijuana sales as a first time nonviolent offender, 55 years because he possessed a gun. so his sentences were stacked. weldon angelos is out of prison now. he was pardoned by trump. republican senator mike lee of utah was the one who brought a lot of attention to mr. angelos. and the practice of stacking another category of individuals. democratic lawmakers want considered pardoned are those who are serving out the remainder of their sentences in home confin

senators cory booker and mike lee joined us.irst step act acknowledges the obvious, the vast majority of people who are incarcerated will some day be released so we must prepare them to successfully return to their communities. in the last six years, this law has safely and effectively reduced populations in overcrowded federal prisons, reuniting families and revitalizing communities. the first step act looked toward the future by providing opportunities for the incarcerated people to reenter society successfully. it helped to reform harsh drug sentencing laws of the past and remedy their effects. i authored bipartisan legislation, the fair sentencing act of 2010 reducing the unjust 100-1 sentencing disparity between crack powder, cocaine offenses. under the first step act the fair sentencing act reforms were made retro active allowing those who still serve sentences imposed before the change in law to be resentenced. i am thankful for the tireless efforts of many dedicated advocates and families who never gave up hope that this
