i'm cory johnson. we are talking net neutrality.r fcc commissioner michael copps and larry downes, we were talking about the secrecy issue. is this a big deal? it may be as open as the fcc has ever been, but is it open enough? >> i agree. he knows more about the secret workings of the fcc than most of us could ever possibly know. it is not traditional for the fcc to circulate its orders ahead of a vote. they may still be making changes to them. while i would like to see the 332 pages that are allegedly in the report, i understand we have to wait until the vote. given the magnitude of what is happening, and the size literally of what is coming you can understand why members of congress and others are increasingly agitated about what is coming. >> is the interest over this issue something you think we are going to see in the future since technology is as important factor in ways it has never been before? >> i think so. isn't it amazing that we have had 4 million people contact the fcc for something as seemingly arcane as net neutralit

"bloomberg west" editor at large cory johnson is joined by al franken on capitol hill. r franken was one of the biggest proponents of these title to regulations, preventing throttling, preventing companies from deciding who should be old to provide what kind of services on the internet. how do you feel about the fcc's decision? >> this is a big victory. we've been fighting for this for quite a while. this is about maintaining that neutrality, the architecture of the internet from the very beginning, preventing paid prioritization, fast lanes and slow lanes. the invoking of title ii is something the d.c. circuit court pointed to when they twice overturned fcc regulations and rules that tried to maintain net neutrality. this is something we are very gratified about and over 4 million americans wrote in to the fcc, more than twice as many comments as a -- as they have ever received on any issue, a vast majority saying keep that neutrality. cory: i want to talk to you about that. it's a fairly intense response from the public to a fairly arcane rule from the fcc. what does t

i'm cory johnson.l's cofounder shares his fateful encounter that led to the founding of the company in 1998. four years later, they sold the company to ebay. was that the right move? >> the paypal story is long and legend. looking back, was selling at the right thing, the right time? >> it's the kind of experiment that you can only run once. there is no alternative. it is clearly extraordinarily successful today. it is impossible to argue the sale to ebay is not a step in that success. so clearly the true arc is correlated. could we have been bigger in farther along and less bureaucratic, more nimble as a standalone company? maybe, would it have been more challenging than our ability to expand would have taken longer to bring it to more people? possibly as well. it is impossible to tell. the team was very tired. we were in a battle with ebay because they had their own limits service they were not about to give up on, so probably the right call, but on an emotional front it was very difficult. on the bu
