costa county sheriff. the commander, and the bay state area falls under my operation. we were notified there was a fire and we had multiple units and the office of the sheriff respond with pittsburg pd, a half mile radius went into the jurisdiction of altamont pass. we were able to evacuate 1400 homes and 4,000 individuals in a short amount of time. we set up evacuation sites at pittsburg bart station and the calvary temple church, two locations that individuals at bay point live in those areas and were able to respond. we have many individuals who don't have means of transportation to leave the area. we contacted it. ridelta transit. they responded with three buses and gave transportation for individuals who have no means of transportation. we have nonambulatory individuals, and the fire unit responded and they were able to assist those individuals that needed medical assistance or any type of assistance out of the area in there. we also were able, at pittsburg pd was able to bring the drone tv out, that drone is capable of detecting a heat source and give us temperat

bay... contra costa county officals are taking steps to prevent sideshows from happening.e indentifed a popular sidehow spot at the intersection of alhambra valley road and bear creek road. officials are planning to install 100-speed bumps along the yellow center line. the hope is that sideshow participants won't want to drivfe over the bumps. but if the original speed bumps don't work... the county plans on installing bigger bumps. the entire pilot program will cost about 50- thousand dollars. they hope to have the speed bumps installed in the next month. ( darya ) a visitor to the oakland zoo ended up on the wrong side of the safety railing outside the tiger enclosure after dropping his sunglasses.. in cell phone video you can see ginger the tiger approaching the man and he then seems to change his mind and returns to the proper side of the railing. zoo officials say the man should have contacted zoo staff and not tried to retrieve them himself, especially with four tigers on the other side of the chain link fence.

"today in the bay's" pete suratos joins us will i have in antioch, tell us about what happened and the neighbor's concerns for quite some time, pete. >> reporter: sounds like that. contra costa county fire tell us this may have been a case of the tenant misusing or negligence when it came to smoking materials in that home and as you mentioned neighbors have apparently claimed about this neighbor in the past. our crews did get a chance to see what this damage looked like from the fire. this took place on the thousand block of claudia court in antioch in contra costa county fire saying it happened roughly around 1:15 a.m., got a call about an apartment fire in this complex, a person trapped in the balcony area. they were able to get to the scene. they knocked down that fire. they say that the tenant is okay

bay area an average of $1,000 each year. a new report by a national transportation group says san francisco, oakland, and san jose have the roughest roads in america. and contra costa county aren't doing much better. nbc bay area's melissa colorado is in concord with this list. >> reporter: concord and antioch actually top the list when it comes to mid-size cities with the reports roads in america. take this avenue, for example. you can see there's a dip in the middle of the road here and there's a line of scrape marks. and this is when the undercarriage of a car scrapes across this pavement and opponents of prop 6 say that if the gas tax is repealed the roads here in the bay area are only going to get worse. juniper bausch of oakland rarely drives her van with a full tank of gas. why? because she can't afford the 80 bucks at the pump. >> i don't really usually fill it up anymore because i can't afford to, you know. quite a bit of money. >> reporter: voters like juniper will decide the future of california roads on election day when they vote on prop 6. a yes vote would eliminate the 12-cent tax on gas and 20-cent gas on diesel. a no on prop 6 would keep it in plac

( james ) happening now... firefighters in contra costats are on standby in case of a major fire. in previous years departments put their hands on resources once a fire starts.. but because of last years north bay fires they are taking a proactive approach. officials are calling it prepositioning.. .. a state funded effort to prepare for a fire. officials say it allows them to have all the resources available before a fire breaks out. but they say there are extra precautions you need to take during the red flag warnings.
