, prince william county, fairfax county, loudoun county or montgomery county or right in the district, you are noticing darkening skies. let's look at the city cam. the skies are turning dark. that's the heavy rain to the south and west of us. that's what's moving this way, north and northeastward. areas inside the beltway, right around 395, around bailey's cross roads, you have a little bit of moderate rain starting to make its way toward you. open it up and you can see where right now manassas and manassas park getting extremely heavy rain. that area is under a tornado warning making its way to i-29 and i-66. heavy rain into the herndon area. areas around i-50 and i-16, you have the heavy rain, too. loudoun county, you haven't got hit hard, yet. western fairfax county starting to see very heavy rain as well as frequent lightning. you saw the road conditions there that we showed you around sudley. deteriorating road conditions as well. i-70 and i-270 up in montgomery county for leesburg and bluemont area. >> we are going to watch the thunderstorms through the rest of the hour and the

county. storms continue to develop during the evening. the good news, if we have any advantage, we are looking at conditions that will gradually improve as we move through the overnight hours. the sun sets a lot earlier just about 6:30, and the daytime heating we had today with the sunshine this afternoon that is what brought on the severe weather. but to send to time lapse mode, the development of the storms. the center of the storm now moving towards manassas. down towards stafford, quantico, dale city interstate 95 corridor, strong storms to contend with. the main focus is the box until 5:30 this evening, prince william county, that is the core of this warning. the storm moves off to the north at about 35 m.p.h. showers over the district into old town alexandria, springfield, the mixing bowl. on the left-hand side of the screen the storms quickly moving to the north. centreville, chantilly dulles international airport you will all be in line for stronger storms as well as ruston and vienna

all of northern virginia, louden county, fairfax county then down to the south around stafford county, fredericksburg and of course culpeper and back to the west. southern maryland includes prince george's county, calvert, charles, st. marys. this goes into effect until 11:00 tonight. we are dealing with the potential of these storms in the evening hours. pay attention with this because we have more storms down to the south. let's go over to graphics 22. we are not quite done yet. we have the storms in the immediate area to the south of warrenton, culpeper and charlottesville. more down here towards richmond. these are the storms around richmond. notice the storms here. these are the storms right around the richmond area that will eventually make their way up to the north. now, we are talking about portions of maryland. charles county, you will see those in an hour to two hours. right now, northern virginia is under the gun. right into prince william county. if you live in the warrenton area, make sure you are safe. i think the storm should pass just to your east. still, watch this on

so again, tornado warnings for fairfax county and for prince william county and stafford county. i'm most concerned now with this particular area just south of shantilly, back to burke, and just now north of manassas. manassas you're in good shape except for heavy rain. and really prince william county, you're almost clear of the severe weather. it's going to be confined right in this little box inbetween fairfax and centerville. so this is the deal. interior room, a basement, away from windows. i'm telling you, this is a serious situation. sometimes we'll get doppler indicated warnings and we won't be as concerned. i'm really concerned with this. we have confirmation of damage south of town and we have confirmation of at least a funnel cloud. i guarantee you there's damage right in here, south of 66. west of 123. again, this is a little box. down to burke, including fairfax over to centerville, up to shantilly. probably straddling i-66 at this time. i-66 westbound is going to be a mess. more so today, and out 50 and out 7 is also going to be a mess because of this storm. i can't

all nine counties will be affected. but some counties will be impacted more. monte francis is at san francisco hall of justice with that story. >> reporter: good evening. here in san francisco there is not an overcrowding problem so we're told there is enough room for the inmates who began arriving today. as many as 700 prison inmates are expected to come to facilities in san francisco county to serve out time by the end of the year. and we understand that about 30 of those inmates arrived today. under the governor's plan the transfers happening in response to a court order and deal with the massive overcrowding in state prisons and it's supposed to involve so-called lower level offenders, so in theory that would mean no violent criminals or sex offenders. we spoke to the supervisor who chairs the board's public safety committee. he says the space and resources are here in san francisco to accommodate these inmates but he says the real long term issue is about funding. >> if this keeps coming year after year after year, it's going to beg the obvious question,
