in frederick county, maryland, we've been here all morning long. the snow started shortly after 4:00 a.m. and it taper off to a few light flurries. i want to show you what conditions look like at this hour. you know, the roads are actually not all that bad. at least from our vantage point. we moved about five miles down the road and the roads are predominantly just wet. we're at the corner of town pike and crestwood road and again as i mentioned, the roads mainly wet. a little bit of slush especially on the side streets but what my concern is is temperatures are well below freezing. so some of the roads especially some of the side streets aren't driven on, they may get a little bit icy and a little bit slick. but it was the snow day today for teachers and students in frederick county, maryland. look at the snow, it's a very, very fluffy snow so maybe not the best for the snow men and also for the snowballs but as far as totals go, just over an inch and a half here in frederick county, maryland, and as i mentioned, the snow pretty much tapering off.

hollywood, maryland, st. mary's county, we got 1.5 inches. lusby, maryland in calvert county,.7 inches. 1.3 inches in culpeper. we had a report of about an inch in stafford. an inch in opal and reagan national picked up two-tenths of an inch of snow. on satellite and radar, you can see the system pulling away now. it's a fairly weak system but we did see the snow from it. and now it is pulling away. so this is what you need to know moving forward. as we head into the evening commute, it's going to be dry but cold. maybe just a few flurries still lingering. partial clearing tonight. it will be blustery. we'll see the winds pick up just a little bit and refreezing is highly likely on any untreated surfaces. in fact, just about everything is going to freeze unless it has a good coating of salt or some other kind of deicing agent on it. so stepping out the door tomorrow morning might be a little treacherous as well. but a milder trend is moving in and we'll talk more about that coming up in the first alert seven-day forecast. right now i want to s

just in from harford county, maryland, authorities confirming an emergency vehicle responding to a call hit and killed a paramedic. this happened this afternoon in bel air. the rescue truck slid down the driveway and collided with a member of the bel air volunteer fire department. the 29-year-old paramedic died at the hospital. he worked there the past three years and also volunteered in howard county. funeral arrangements are pending. the other big story a two-year federal prison sentence for former virginia governor mcdonnell. but as jeff goldberg reports, he is fighting the time behind bars. and a new cotton's from apple >> developing news from richmond, where a judge sentenced former virginia governor bob mcdonnell to two years in prison, but that sentence may not stand. jeff goldberg tells us what's next. >> the two-year sentence comes weeks after the u.s. probation office recommended a sentence of 10 to 12 years in prison. following the decision, bob mcdonnell embraced his children in the courtroom, then walked outside looking call men composed. following the decision in court bob

maryland state police are trying to determine which driver ran a red light in queen anne county, maryland, that killed five people. this happened early this morning on route 50 and route 213. five people, including a pregnant woman, died when ta tractor-trailer t-boned the vehicle they were in. >> the tractor-trailer rolled over on the vehicle. >> 24-year-old regina ayres was killed, so were served boyfriend, travis, her seven-month-old daughter that her seven-year-old daughter. her pregnant sister was also killed. the family was traveling to baltimore for her baby shower. a suspected truck driver is being blamed for causing it overnight crash that injured a greenbelt police officer. the officer was in his vehicle at a traffic stop on greenbelt road and hanover parkway when he was hit by a third car. the officer suffered minor injuries. the driver that was pulled over was not injured. the driver of the third car was not hurt, but she has been charged with driving with impaired vision and driving under the influence. additional security measures are planned for a rally tomorrow in paris to

how the weather is impacting the roads in montgomery county maryland. john? >> and autria this storm much different than what hit us last wednesday. you can still see a lot of snow there in the parking lot at the loews here in frederick, maryland. this is bucky's town pike route 85 and we can tell you the commute, even though there was no snow, the commute was still very difficult for many throughout the day with all that rain and freezing rain overnight. traffic was very light and very slow at this hour, still very cold and still a lot of rain coming down so you want to give yourself plenty of time and you'll go slower on the roads today. when you see the salt trucks today, you will see them, you definitely want to give them a lot of time to maneuver. >> the ice is on the overpasses ramps, some of the bottom areas cold spots, in the valleys. they ice up first because the cold air sits. it doesn't move. and we hit them really hard first and then you know like some of the open areas, they're pretty good. but we do it constantly so fluctuation, temperature up o

and cecil county maryland moving straight into kent counties and you can see that some of it is a little on the heavier side. it's below freezing north and west already and it's close enough to freezing so that when snow starts it would knock the temperature down a couple of degrees, but like i said it's not going to last that long and the futurecast showing that by 8:00 it is starting to move out of delaware and philadelphia and we're still getting some of the lehigh valley and the poconos and that's why they'll be getting more snow than others and the general area about an inch or less than philly and perhaps more up to the north. now the issue is going to be the bitter cold followed by some snow. this is the next system watch what's coming in from the west and this is the storm that will go straight west to east so it's not going to miss the entire area and it's just a question of when the zone sets up and it could be a little bit farther south so delaware and south jersey can get their share of snow out of this next one, too. that is sunday night and monday. for tonight, we have the
