courtney reagan is at an amazon fulfillment center out in phoenix. courtney? >> reporter: good afternoon, tyler. we started the day at fedex. we wanted to see all the orders placed over the thanksgiving weekend get loaded on the trucks, here we are at amazon's 1.where the numbers are coming in. now, amazon hasn't given us any expectation about the sales numbers today, but we do know in 2012, customers placed orders 26.5 million of them around the world. amazon did say in its latest earnings release it expects a record-breaking holiday season of growth of 10% to 25%. we no with our without drones, amazon has certainly changed the face of retail and online shopping. now, amazon representatives say this fulfillment center is as full as it's ever been. now, they think the early sales we have seen online will be a benefit to amazon, but others are worried that the early strength has actually pulled some of the mania away from cybermonday. but still, if the orders are up, it doesn't really matter when they come in, at least to amazon. and of course we have a lot of

first courtney reagan is here to set up the battle. >> before we get to the opinions i have to give youries so last year. this year it's about active wear. li lululemon a favorite of yogis. underarmor aiming for athletes everywhere selling everything to everyone from vidindividuals to sports team. it's the fight of the athletic champions. in the ring lulu lemon takes on under armor. pinning high-end yoga pants against the ultimate job gear. as lululemon and underar more take aim for each other's sweet spots. lulu wants men and underarmor eyes the ladies. sizing up the competition, lulu sells yoga wear in 226 stores and on the web while underarmor athletic web is sold by over 25,000 world rhee tailors worldwide. ua stores and on-line. last holiday quarter, lululemon's direct to consumer sales increased 56% while underarmor's grew at about half that rate. but in the most recent quarter underarmors net income packed a powerful punch up 27% year over year and lulu dropped 2%. lululemon racks up one of the highest average sales per square foot in retail but still getting over the see through

courtney regan explains. >> reporter: a little chill in the air is at the top of many retailers wish list during november and december and on the first key shopping weekend, santa delivered earlearly. arctic cold air sat during the black friday week pushing temperatures three to 15 degrees cooler for average, making this year's black friday the coldest in more than 20 years for a large portion of the country. the results followed through as retailers would help. the f corp and north face and ugg boots were up. footlocker says strength in the timber land business is making the shoe retailer optimistic about boots this season. jp morgan analysts say the weather has been a positive x factor noting evidence suggests it is impacting consumer buying. he says macy's cfo told investors the department store sees increased opportunity to sale outer wear into the hole say season. in fact, the weather channel survey shows consumer demand for heavy outer wear increased 125% compared to last year. stronger demand shows retailers can sale goods at full price, especially important for one of the mos

courtney regan has more. >> reporter: finally, lululemon name answer new ceo. it's been six months since chris tine day said she would retire her post as ceo once a successor was found and just in time for christmas, the retailer announces tom as president and will step into the top spot at lulu. >> i'm incredibly lucky to be involved and lululemon is on it's way. >> reporter: it's not just the ceo seat rotating. the controversial founder chip wilson is resigning his post as chairman but will remain on the board. he made comments suggesting women's bodies may be the issue behind the pants problem that led to a recall of the 72 plus dollar yoga pants. the shoppers appear to have forgiven the retailer but questions remain about lulu's management. he was with snow board company burton for 15 years, both are privately held. he's not well-known by wall street and as a result, the hiring announcement is getting mixed reviews. >> christine day had a great retail sensibility and i think did a fabulous job doing that, but didn't have the background from an operation l p
