peter and courtney plea, standby. joining us now by phone is msnbc military analyst colonel jack jacobs colonel jack your reaction to news tonight that the united states has performed limited strikes in syria against the iranian revolutionary guard corps. >> well, it's not surprising that iran has done what it's done. it tries as much as possible to use proxies, but its fingerprints are on absolutely every attack on american and allied interests in the region. and so, at some juncture, they would expect that the united states would strike. we have struck before in syria and other places as a result of attacks on american interests. it depends on whether or not iran wants to take it further. the likelihood is that they will not. they will continue to use proxies, make small scale attacks, and as we heard, in the event that there is a death, an american death, as a result of an attack by iran or in iran proxy, then we can expect an escalation and we already have plans to attack a specific targets among iranian interests

it hasn't, courtney. for the month of june, sustained itself and now we get the september data and what's happening, courtney, two things. one, people are marking up the gdp, not just for this quarter which i guess apologies to the atlanta fed, which i've often reported has been way too high. this month it looks like in the 4%, 5% gdp range could be about right but it's flatter in the fourth quarter because of the starting point from september. the other thing it's doing, courtney, raising the odds of a fed rate hike. for the first time we are just about at the 50% level for january. that wasn't even in play. everybody thought if they didn't get it done this year, it was not going to get done at all. now they've transferred their fed anxiety from this year to the first month of next year. and so not much chance in november. a bit more chance in december. now we're talking about january being in play as well. >> why now? right now it looks like the economy is pretty strong. >> reporter: people are hedging
