bill would amend the met rick for allocating state and local aid to further disadvantaged rural communities by accounting for both population and unemployment, unlike in previous covid legislation. even worse, this bill includes $30 billion in federal transit administration grants and specifies that $26.1 billion must be spent in urban areas while only $280.9 million can be spent in rural communities. this is a 99% to 1% split. again, it's $26.1 billion for urban areas, and only $2 0.9 million for rural areas. democrats were so generous in this bailout that they were able to spare rural communities a whopping $10 million nature in fta grants than what they allocated for arts and humanities. fta grants that has nothing to do with covid. essentially the same as spent on rural communities. the house markup of the bill just over a week ago, i offered an amendment that would have reallocated this $270 million that democrats want to spend on arts and humanities, instead invest in rural education, including broadband. sadly, the amendment was defeated because not a single democrat on that committee could bring themselves to put the needs of rural education over subsidizing
