we think it is brushing past the coast of cozumel.next 30 minutes or potentially by pass cozumel and make landfall near the yucatan peninsula. you'll notice only six major hurricanes have crossed within a 100 mile radius in recorded history around cancun. it's pretty rare to see this magnitude of storm in this region. the question as we get through this evening and into the gulf, where is the storm going to end up? they have suggested it will take a westerly track into the warmer air in the gulf. that will allow it to maintain its intensity, strengthen up to a category 4 on the immediate coast. the western track allows this to be a stronger system. we think landfall sometime friday afternoon and friday night. confidence increasing that the state of louisiana will be the highest likelihood for a landfall location. this is the fourth land falling storm for the state in 2020, which would also be a record. you'll notice, we want to strengthen this possibly back up to a category 4 before we get on approach to landfall as a major hurricane

made landfall on the yucatan last night, south of cancun and cozumel. it is now over land, down to a tropical storm again, but the hurricane center, the brand-new forecast that's in has it becoming a hurricane once again and making landfall just south of new orleans wednesday evening, likely as a category 1 hurricane. and then the storm races to the southeast and then comes off the mid-atlantic coast. at that point, it could actually become more like a nor'easter-type storm. notice winds near 50 miles per hour for southern new england. so numerous facets to this storm, but the first would be the landfall. possible wind gusts, could be up to 90 miles per hour in southern louisiana. notice high winds possible in the mississippi coastline, too, and that would be causing power outages throughout that area. we'll have to watch new orleans carefully also. as far as storm surge goes, this isn't as bad as some of the other storms we've had this season, but 4 to 6 feet is nothing to sneeze at, especially dangerous for anyone down near the water areas. and the he
