we think it is brushing past the coast of cozumel.next 30 minutes or potentially by pass cozumel and make landfall near the yucatan peninsula. you'll notice only six major hurricanes have crossed within a 100 mile radius in recorded history around cancun. it's pretty rare to see this magnitude of storm in this region. the question as we get through this evening and into the gulf, where is the storm going to end up? they have suggested it will take a westerly track into the warmer air in the gulf. that will allow it to maintain its intensity, strengthen up to a category 4 on the immediate coast. the western track allows this to be a stronger system. we think landfall sometime friday afternoon and friday night. confidence increasing that the state of louisiana will be the highest likelihood for a landfall location. this is the fourth land falling storm for the state in 2020, which would also be a record. you'll notice, we want to strengthen this possibly back up to a category 4 before we get on approach to landfall as a major hurricane

and all thoughts right now are for our friends in cancun and near the cozumel area.y are expecting now to deal with a category 4 hurricane, a major hurricane, direct landfall, in roughly about 24 hours from now. so, that's a serious situation. it's happened v cancun area, but they are boarding up, getting people out of there. a very dangerous situation there for, you know, the resort areas there in northeast portions of mexi mexico. so, what happens after that? we do think the storm will slowly begin to weaken as it approaches the northern gulf coast. but if you go from a category 4 to a 3, that's still serious, maybe down to a category 2, hopefully. that's still a serious concern. the area of uncertainty goes from pensacola back to the texas/louisiana border. but as of now, it's really louisiana. and you don't want to be on the right side of these storms, you know. day three and day four airs are about 110 to 150 miles, so that's why we're still saying anywhere from about houston to about mobile and pensacola, you need to keep an eye on this. and the recipe for stre

went into the cancun area, cozumel.t was a category 2 when it made landfall there, so there's a lot of tree damage, there was power outages throughout the city. we had some problems with some water and some flooding, some minor structural damage. but this wasn't a devastating blow that's going to, like, you know, make it where, you know, tourists don't return for, like, years. so, we're talking a cleanup that will take a couple weeks and months and get power back. but you know, thankfully, it was not as bad as it could have been. let's get into the forecast now. let's talk about louisiana. now, we had hurricane warnings that are in effect for the lake charles area, all the way from cameron parish to abbeville to morgan city, backwards lafayette to alexandria. outside of that, we have tropical storm warnings in effect for galveston all the way to new orleans. as this storm has gotten larger, it hasn't really gotten stronger. it is a category 2, 100-mile-per-hour winds. this does not look like it's going to become like on

made landfall on the yucatan last night, south of cancun and cozumel. it is now over land, down to a tropical storm again, but the hurricane center, the brand-new forecast that's in has it becoming a hurricane once again and making landfall just south of new orleans wednesday evening, likely as a category 1 hurricane. and then the storm races to the southeast and then comes off the mid-atlantic coast. at that point, it could actually become more like a nor'easter-type storm. notice winds near 50 miles per hour for southern new england. so numerous facets to this storm, but the first would be the landfall. possible wind gusts, could be up to 90 miles per hour in southern louisiana. notice high winds possible in the mississippi coastline, too, and that would be causing power outages throughout that area. we'll have to watch new orleans carefully also. as far as storm surge goes, this isn't as bad as some of the other storms we've had this season, but 4 to 6 feet is nothing to sneeze at, especially dangerous for anyone down near the water areas. and the he
