and so, the pressure to prosecute craig came in september of 2018. two months before the november midterms. when a department official called berman's deputy earlier today, berman told my friend and colleague, the great nicolle wallace, what the official said. >> we want you to indict greg craig before the midterm elections. the person said, hey, you know, you have just indicted two major allies of the president. chris collins, a republican congressman from upstate new york, and michael cohen, had the president's lawyer and fixer, and it's time to even things out by indicting a democrat before the midterms. >> berman's office refused to even things out and said they believed craig was innocent. it should have ended there. but instead, the doj sent the investigation to federal prosecutors in washington. where craig was indicted and tried on a single count of making false statements. he was immediately acquitted by a jury because, as berman's office tried to tell barr, he was innocent. the senate judiciary committee will now investigate these allegatio

so joining me now is craig fugate, former head of fema for the obama administration and former florida congressman carbellow. what is fema doing to help especially in coordinating with multiple agencies and organizations from different jurisdictions? >> well, that's just it. to coordinate all the federal resources to support governor desantis' response. the big focus is still search and rescue, getting supplies in there. you already have the florida national guard handing out supplies and getting that going and then the next big step as we're continuing the rescue operations will be start looking at where people are going to stay. we have people in shelters, people staying in their cars and that's going to be the next big part of this response that fema will be supporting is temporary housing arrangements. >> craig, if there's no infrastructure, no power grid, no electricity, maybe not even shelters even left to be able to accommodate people who have lost their homes, what can be done to be able to help these people that are left over as survivors from hurricane ian? >> well, again, th

berman's office declined to prosecute craig. get this, the department set the f-investigation to federal prosecutors in washington, where craig was indicted, tried on a single count of making false statements. he was acquitted by a jury in less than five hours. government also details what happened when bill barr tried to push him out. it told my colleague nicole walsh about the strategy. >> at the very end of my tenure there was a situation where barr was going to impose an outsider who he trusted in charge of the southern just checked of new york. and at that point, i went public. >> he played some killer office politics! >> i don't think there's a president in department of justice for what i did. i sent out a press release and i stole the entire country what barr was trying to do, how we crossed the line, and i use language for the obstruction of justice statute. very intentionally. and it was because of that very noisy exit that are backed down. >> now in the end, barr did fire berman but berman was able to put his trust de
